Front Runner South Construction Update

Construction is progressing on UTA’s FrontRunner South Provo to Salt Lake Commuter Rail line.

Below is the FrontRunner South construction update for April 25 – May 1.

Area 16 — Downtown Salt Lake City to 4500 South (Murray)



Construction Activity:

Crews will continue installing shotcrete and flashcoat on the cut wall at 3900 South in South Salt Lake. The wall should be complete this week.
Also, utility crews will be splicing fiber optics throughout the area.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no traffic impacts in this area.



Salt Lake Central Station:

Station complete.





Area 15 — 4500 South (Murray) to 7800 South (Midvale)



Construction Activity:

Crews will be splicing fiber optics throughout the area this week.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



Murray-5300 South Station:

No station construction activities to report.





Area 14 — 7800 South (Midvale) to Bangerter Highway (Draper/Bluffdale)



Construction Activity:

Progress continues in Area 14 behind Salt Lake Community College’s campus at 9800 South as crews construct a bridge that flies over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. This is the area where FrontRunner will move from the east side to the west side of the tracks.



Crews will be forming two pier caps on the flyover bridge and pouring concrete for one of them. They will continue excavation work for a wall near the bridge and begin constructing the wall.



Also, mass embankment work will continue near 123rd South, and crews will be splicing fiber optics throughout the area and potholing to locate utilities near 108th South.



Traffic Impacts:

Flaggers will be stationed on either side of the 144th South bridge this week to help direct truck traffic entering and exiting the railroad corridor on the east side of the bridge.



South Jordan/Sandy Station:

No station construction activities to report.





Area 13 — Bangerter Highway (Draper/Bluffdale) to Thanksgiving Point
(Lehi)



Construction Activity:

Crews continue to establish access in this area and prepare the site along the railroad corridor in Bluffdale and Lehi. Excavation and trackway embankment work will continue this week.



Throughout the area, crews will be splicing fiber optics as well as installing a storm drain and catch basin north of Thanksgiving Point in Lehi.



Crews will also continue pouring a floor slab and begin forming and pouring the walls for the South Jordan Canal channel. Work will begin again on a bridge spanning the Jordan River as crews work on abutment footings.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



Draper/Bluffdale Station:

No station construction activities to report.







Area 12 — Thanksgiving Point (Lehi) to Main Street (American Fork)



Construction Activity:

Crews will continue work for the new Union Pacific Railroad Siding on the west side of the corridor by finishing subgrade prep and beginning to place subballast. They will also work on constructing a wall that will run parallel to Garden Drive.



Utility work will also take place along Garden Drive as crews relocate power and fiber.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be several sets of flaggers stationed along Garden Drive on Monday through Thursday to support utility work and help direct truck traffic near the corridor.



There will be no traffic impacts along Garden Drive on Fridays between April 17 and May 2 during the Thanksgiving Point Tulip Festival.



Lehi Station:

No station construction activities to report.





Area 11 — Main Street (American Fork) to 800 South (Orem)

Construction Activity:

Trackway embankment work continues in American Fork from 1100 South to 100 East. Embankment work will also take place from 200 South to 7350 West at Main Street as well as some irrigation work and wick drain installation.



Crews will be splicing fiber optics throughout the area this week.



Traffic Impacts:

Flaggers will be stationed at 100 East in American Fork to direct truck traffic entering the corridor and at 1100 South in American Fork to direct truck traffic leaving the corridor.



American Fork-Main St. Station:

Initial earthwork has begun at the American Fork Park and Ride Lot.



Orem Station:

Crews will be forming and rebarring footers for the station platform this week. Some earthwork activities will also take place near the site of the future station.



Area 10 — 800 South (Orem) to Center Street (Provo) Construction Activity:

Significant progress has been made in Area 10 along the Union Pacific Railroad corridor between University Parkway in Orem and West Center Street in Provo. Crews have prepared a path for FrontRunner by grading and clearing the right-of-way and relocating water lines.



Crews are placing subballast near the beginning of the line in Provo.
Crews also will be splicing fiber optics throughout the area this week.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



Provo Station-University Ave. Station:

No station construction activities to report.
