Front Runner South Construction Update

Greetings,

Construction is progressing on UTA’s FrontRunner South Provo to Salt Lake Commuter Rail line.

Below is the FrontRunner South construction update for June 13 – 19.

Area 16 — Downtown Salt Lake City to 4500 South (Murray)

Construction Activity:

There are no construction activities planned in this area this week.

Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.

Salt Lake Central Station:

Station complete.

Area 15 — 4500 South (Murray) to Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale)

Construction Activity:

Work will begin on a bridge that will span the eastbound lanes of I-215 this week. Crews will begin installing temporary shoring.

Construction will continue this week on bridges over Center (7800 South) and Wasatch (8000 South) Streets in Midvale. These bridges will run parallel to existing Union Pacific Railroad main line bridges.

Crews will continue installing temporary shoring on the south abutment of the Center Street bridge and begin installing H-pile on this abutment. They will also begin installing temporary shoring for the north abutment.

At Wasatch Street, crews will continue abutment wall construction.

Traffic Impacts:

Lane and sidewalk closures will take place in conjunction with Wasatch and Center Streets bridge construction. Closures will alternate sides. At Wasatch Street, flaggers will be directing traffic and at Center Street eastbound traffic will be narrowed to one lane.

Murray Station:

No station construction activities to report.

Area 14 — Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale) to 14600 South (Bluffdale)

Construction Activity:

Progress continues behind Salt Lake Community College’s Sandy Center Campus at 9800 South as crews construct a bridge that flies over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. This is the area where FrontRunner will move from the east side to the west side of the tracks.

Construction will continue on a wall on the northeast side of the bridge, as will mass embankment work. Crews will also set forms and rebar for pier #5 and strip forms from pier #3.

Crews will be clearing and grubbing the corridor between 10000 South and 10600 South and installing drainage near 11400 South in South Jordan.

Traffic Impacts:

Flaggers will be stationed at 9400 South in Sandy to direct truck traffic delivering lightweight fill to the site of the flyover bridge.

The outside northbound lane on South Jordan Gateway at approximately 10400 South will be closed as flaggers direct truck traffic moving lightweight fill.

At 14400 South in Bluffdale, flaggers will be stationed on either side of the bridge to help direct truck traffic entering and exiting the railroad corridor on the east side of the bridge. We ask that drivers please be patient and courteous while using the one-lane road under the bridge and that they please obey instructions from the flaggers for safety reasons.

South Jordan Station:

Lightweight fill for the flyover bridge construction is being stored at the site of the future South Jordan park and ride lot.

Draper/Bluffdale Station:

The location of this future station is to be determined.

Area 13 — 14600 South (Bluffdale) to Thanksgiving Point (Lehi)

Construction Activity:

Crews continue to establish access and prepare the site along the railroad corridor in Bluffdale and Lehi. Excavation and trackway embankment work will continue throughout the area.

Crews will place and backfill the north end box culvert for the Jordan and Salt Lake Canal bridge and also backfill the south end ramp. Wall construction will take place this week on the South Jordan Canal concrete channel and concrete will be poured for the Jordan River bridge footings.

Sub grade stabilization will be placed for the Union Pacific siding relocation north of Clubhouse Lane in Lehi.

Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.

Area 12 — Thanksgiving Point (Lehi) to Main Street (American Fork)

Construction Activity:

Crews will continue to construct track for the new Union Pacific Railroad siding (and future UTA main line #2) on the west side of the corridor near Thanksgiving Point as well as begin clearing and grubbing more of the corridor.

Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.

Lehi Station:

Now that the underground utility work at the future Lehi park and ride site is complete, crews will begin preparing the area for storm drain work.

Area 11 — Main Street (American Fork) to University Parkway (Orem)

Construction Activity:

Trackway embankment work continues in American Fork from 200 South to 7350 West at Main Street, as well as at the sites of the future Vineyard and Orem Stations.

On Thursday and Friday, a utility crew will extend a water casing at 400 South in Orem.

Traffic Impacts:

On Tuesday, June 16, flaggers will be directing traffic at 200 South in Lehi to support utility work.

Flaggers will be stationed at the American Fork park and ride lot on 7750 North to direct truck traffic exiting the corridor and at Main Street and Millpond Road in Lehi to direct truck traffic entering the corridor.

At 400 South in Orem there will be a lane shift on Thursday and Friday as crews conduct utility work in the shoulder.

American Fork Station:

No station construction activities to report.

Vineyard Station:

Crews will continue forming the platform footings for the future station and pour concrete on Thursday.

Orem Station:

Crews will form and pour a stem wall at the Orem park and ride site.

Area 10 — University Parkway (Orem) to Center Street (Provo)

Construction Activity:

Significant progress has been made in Area 10 along the Union Pacific Railroad corridor between University Parkway in Orem and West Center Street in Provo. Crews have prepared a path for FrontRunner by grading and clearing the right-of-way and relocating water lines. Drainage and irrigation installations are generally complete in this area.

At Union Pacific’s Lakota Junction just south of University Parkway in Orem crews will continue sub grade preparation and mass embankment work. Utility crews will be working along the right-of-way at 1500 North, 820 North, 200 North and 500 West.

Traffic Impacts:

In Provo there will be flaggers stationed at the following locations on the listed dates:

· At 1500 North a single lane closure will occur on Wed., June 17, to support utility work

· At 820 North Wed. – Fri. there will be a single lane closure while crews conduct utility work

· Also at 820 North, starting on Thurs., there will be trucks entering and exiting the corridor

· At 200 North trucks will be entering and exiting the corridor throughout the week;

· At 500 West on Mon. and Tue. there will be a single lane closure to support utility work.

Provo Station:

No station construction activities to report.
