Front Runner Construction Update

Construction is progressing on UTA’s FrontRunner South Provo to Salt Lake Commuter Rail line.

Below is the FrontRunner South construction update for September 25 – October 1. Please note that construction information is subject to change.



FrontRunner South construction began in 2008 and is more than 50 percent complete. The FrontRunner South line will be complete and operational by 2015. UTA would like to remind Utah County express bus riders that service from the 2100 N. Lehi park and ride lot has been discontinued. Express bus service is now available from the Lehi FrontRunner park and ride lot at 2821 W. Executive Parkway, as well as the American Fork FrontRunner park and ride lot at 782 W. 200 S. Because the Lehi park and ride lot will be opened in phases, more stalls are currently available at the American Fork park and ride lot. Street parking is available near the Lehi park and ride lot.



Area 16 — Downtown Salt Lake City to 4500 South (Murray)



Construction Activity:

Crews will relocate power poles at 1300 South and clear and grub the corridor and continue waterline work between 1700 South and Mill Creek. North of 3900 South crews will be excavating for a retaining wall and south of 3900 South crews will be constructing a wall. At the Central Avenue bridge, crews will pour concrete for the bridge’s back and wing walls and finish shear keys. They will also install signal power service in the area. Between Central Avenue and 4500 South crews will continue track way embankment and at the 4500 South bridge crews will continue retaining wall construction for the bridge’s south abutment and clean up and grade the slopes at the bridge.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic on Central Avenue Monday through Friday.



The eastbound right lane will be closed on 4500 South Monday through Friday.



Salt Lake Central Station:

Station complete.



Area 15 — 4500 South (Murray) to Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale)



Construction Activity:

Between 4500 South and 4800 South crews will restore street light power and install signal power service. At the 5300 South bridge crews will install deck plates and at Vine Street crews will excavate for a crash wall. Between 5300 South and 5900 South, crews will embank the track way and install storm drain, and between 5900 South and I-215, crews will continue waterline work and also clear and grub the corridor. At the 7200 South bridge, crews will place surcharge.



Traffic Impacts:

The 4500 South Frontage Road is currently closed at the tracks for bridge work through September.



There will be the following impacts on 5300 South this week:

· Westbound left lane closure, Monday

· Eastbound right lane closure, Tuesday through Thursday



There will be truck traffic at 5900 South all week.



Murray Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Area 14 — Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale) to 14600 South (Bluffdale)



General Information:

Considerable progress has been made on the flyover structure west of Salt Lake Community College’s Miller Campus at 9800 South. The 642-foot flyover bridge features a 40-foot-high bridge deck that will allow FrontRunner to travel from the east to the west side of Union Pacific Railroad’s track way. The flyover structure’s approaches consist of keystone block MSE walls filled entirely with lightweight fill to minimize settlement.



Construction Activity:

Crews continue wall excavation north of 9000 South and soil nail installation south of 9000 South. Crews will be installing fencing on top of the retaining wall between 9120 South and 9400 South and at the 9120 South bridge crews will build forms and pour concrete for the south abutment. At the 10600 South bridge crews will install shoring at the south abutment and continue work on the north abutment walls. Crews will continue mass excavation between South Jordan Gateway and 11400 South and sheet pile shoring installation south of 11400 South. At the Bangerter Highway bridge, crews will continue work on the shear keys.



Traffic Impacts:

The eastbound right lane will be closed on 9120 South Monday through Thursday.



There will be a northbound lane closure on South Jordan Gateway at approximately 10300 South for truck traffic.



There will be a full closure of all eastbound lanes on 10600 South between Saturday, October 2 at 10:00 p.m. and Monday, October 4 at 5:00 a.m.



There will be the following impacts on Bangerter Highway this week:

· Westbound right lane closure, Tuesday

· Westbound left lane closure, Wednesday



There will be truck traffic with flaggers on 14600 South Monday through Friday.



South Jordan Station:

Lightweight fill for the job is being stored at the station site. There are no construction activities to report.



Draper Future Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Area 13 — 14600 South (Bluffdale) to Thanksgiving Point (Lehi)



Construction Activity:

Crews will be repairing a wall near 14600 South and continuing canal realignment work south of 14600 South. Now that Union Pacific traffic has been shifted onto the new bridge constructed at the Jordan River, crews are retrofitting the old UP bridge for UTA’s use. This week, crews will place girders and build deck forms. Crews will be installing permanent fencing north of Thanksgiving Point and along the Golf Course.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



Area 12 — Thanksgiving Point (Lehi) to Main Street (American Fork)



General Information:

Crews are currently constructing two major bridges in Lehi at 2300 West and 2100 North. The 2300 West bridge will allow FrontRunner to travel over Lehi City’s future 2300 West road project and the 2100 North bridge will span UDOT’s future Mountain View Corridor, 2100 North roadway. The 2100 North bridge will feature abutments on each end of the bridge and five center piers.



Construction Activity:

In the Cranberry Farms area, crews will be working on a retaining wall at approximately 2400 North, staging ties and distributing rail and installing duct for fiber at the 2300 West and 2100 North bridges. Crews will also install deck plates at the 2300 West bridge and grout and patch and install bolsters at the 2100 North bridge. Between 2100 North and 1500 North crews will stage ties and distribute rail, and between 1220 North and 900 North crews will clear and grub the corridor, build slopes and ditches, prepare the sub grade and install signal power.



Crews will construct crossing upgrades this week at the Main Street crossing in downtown Lehi. This work will include signal and track work, the installation of concrete medians and signs, road striping, and asphalt replacement. Crews will be working 24 hours a day at this crossing in order to reopen it as soon as possible to the travelling public.



On Center Street, crews will be installing concrete medians near the crossing, and southeast of 300 East in Lehi, crews will finish prepping the sub grade prep and place sub ballast.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic on 500 West in Lehi near the tracks all week.



The Main Street crossing in Lehi will be closed for crossing upgrade work Monday, September 27 through Sunday, October 3. Traffic will be detoured on 300 West, 500 North and 500 West.



There will be lane restrictions on Center Street in Lehi on Monday.



Lehi Station:

A portion of the Lehi Station Park and Ride Lot is now open for public use.



At the pedestrian tunnel, crews will continue work on the tunnel floor and will also trench for a drain connection. At the Park and Ride Lot, crews continue preparing a new section of the parking lot for paving.



Area 11 — Main Street (American Fork) to University Parkway (Orem)



Construction Activity:

Crews will be installing fiber between 7350 West in American Fork and University Parkway in Orem. In American Fork, crews will continue work to relocate a power pole and phone pedestal at 1500 South. Between 400 North in Vineyard and Geneva Road in Orem, crews will install permanent fencing.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be lane restrictions on 1500 South in American Fork Monday through Wednesday.



American Fork Station:

A portion of the American Fork Station Park and Ride Lot is now open for public use.



There are no construction activities to report.



Vineyard Future Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Orem Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Area 10 — University Parkway (Orem) to Center Street (Provo)



General Information:

Significant progress has been made in Area 10 along the Union Pacific Railroad corridor between University Parkway in Orem and Freedom Boulevard in Provo. Crews have prepared a path for FrontRunner by grading and clearing the right-of-way and relocating water lines. Drainage and irrigation installations are generally complete in this area, and main line earthwork has been finalized from University Parkway to 2000 South in Orem and from the Provo River bridge to 500 West in Provo. At-grade crossing improvements have also been completed in Provo at 2000 North, 2800 West, 1680 North, 820 North, Draper Lane, 900 West, 700 West, 500 West and Freedom Boulevard.



Construction Activity:

Crews will surface, line and dress the track between University Parkway in Orem and 2000 North in Provo and install fiber between University Parkway and 1680 North. North of 820 North in Provo, crews will be re-grading ditches, and between 700 West and 900 South crews will de-stress track and remove poles.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



Provo Station:

Crews will install vapor barrier and tie rebar for the low deck at the Provo Station.

Crews will continue installing a waterline between 1700 South and Mill Creek and permanent fencing from Mill Creek to 3300 South. At the Central Avenue bridge, crews will install a sewer line casing and build forms and pour concrete for the bridge abutment footings. Crews will continue to embank the track way from Central Avenue to 4500 South, and at the 4500 South bridge, crews will build forms and pour concrete for the back wall and also work on a retaining wall for the bridge’s south abutment.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic on Central Avenue.



The eastbound right lane will be closed on 4500 South Monday through Friday.



Salt Lake Central Station:

Station complete.



Area 15 — 4500 South (Murray) to Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale)



Construction Activity:

A house will be demolished near the 4500 South Frontage Road to make room for a future road realignment of 200 West. At the 5300 South bridge, crews will continue work on the shear keys, and between 5300 South and 5900 South, crews will continue installing concrete pipe and fencing and demolishing track. They will also remove trees and embank the track way. Between 5900 South and I-215, crews will continue waterline work, and at the 7200 South bridge, crews will place surcharge.



Traffic Impacts:

The 4500 South Frontage Road is currently closed at the tracks for bridge work through September 20.



There will be the following impacts on 5300 South this week:

· Eastbound right lane closure, Monday and Tuesday

· Westbound left lane closure, Wednesday and Thursday



There will be truck traffic with flaggers on 5900 South.



There will be the following impacts on westbound I-215 this week:

· Full road closure, Friday night, September 17, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.

· Double left lane closure, Saturday night, September 18, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.



Murray Station:

At the Murray Station crews will install conduits and backfill drains.

North of 9000 South, crews continue excavation, shoring and lagging installation, and at the 9000 South bridge, crews will pour a leveling pad for and backfill at the north abutment. South of 9120 South, crews will be drilling soil nails and continuing wall construction, and at the flyover bridge crews will be installing permanent fencing. At 10000 South, crews will set a transformer vault and proof power conduits.



At the 10600 South bridge, crews will continue pier work and also install abutment shoring, and between South Jordan Gateway and 11400 South, crews will be excavating in the corridor. Work on a sheet pile shoring wall will begin this week south of 11400 South and at the Bangerter Highway bridge, crews will continue work on the shear keys. Track way embankment will continue between Bangerter Highway and 14600 South.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic with flaggers on 9400 South.



There will be a lane drop for truck traffic on South Jordan Gateway at approximately 10400 South.



There will be the following impacts on 10600 South this week:

· Eastbound left lane closure, Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

· Eastbound double left lane closure, Monday night, 10 p.m. – 5:00 a.m.

· Westbound left lane closure, Monday night, 10 p.m. – 5 a.m.

· Westbound left lane closure, Tuesday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.



The westbound right lane will be closed on Bangerter Highway on Thursday.



There will be truck traffic on 14600 South.



South Jordan Station:

Lightweight fill for the job is being stored at the station site. There are no construction activities to report.

Area 13 — 14600 South (Bluffdale) to Thanksgiving Point (Lehi)



Construction Activity:

Canal realignment work will begin south of 14600 South and crews will also continue waterline work near Camp Williams. Now that Union Pacific traffic has been shifted onto the new bridge constructed at the Jordan River, crews are retrofitting the old UP bridge for UTA’s use. This week they will continue forming and pouring wing and back walls.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



Area 12 — Thanksgiving Point (Lehi) to Main Street (American Fork)



General Information:

Crews are currently constructing two major bridges in Lehi at 2300 West and 2100 North. The 2300 West bridge will allow FrontRunner to travel over Lehi City’s future 2300 West road project and the 2100 North bridge will span UDOT’s future Mountain View Corridor, 2100 North roadway. The 2100 North bridge will feature abutments on each end of the bridge and five center piers. For the purposes of this publication, the piers are numbered 1 through 5 starting at the southern end of the bridge.



In an effort to increase safety for area schoolchildren, the project will be installing a stop sign at the entrance to the 2300 West bridge construction work site at the 2300 West/2150 North intersection in Cranberry Farms. Crews will also be refreshing the paint on the crosswalk located at the entrance to the work site. All trucks leaving the bridge construction site will come to a complete stop at this crosswalk before proceeding through the intersection.



Construction Activity:

Between Club House Drive and 2100 North, crews will be cleaning up slopes and ditches along the corridor and prepping the sub grade. At the 2300 West bridge, crews will grout and patch and at the 2100 North bridge, work continues on parapet walls. Retaining wall work also continues in Cranberry Farms near the 2300 West bridge. Work will resume on the retaining wall south of 900 North, and, crews will continue to support work for Union Pacific duct and fiber installation at 500 West, Main Street and 200 South in Lehi.



Crossing work will take place at 100 North near the Lehi Rodeo Grounds and will finish up this week at the 200 South crossing. Crews will continue permanent fencing installation between 300 South and 200 South and cross drain and catch basin work between 300 East in Lehi and Main Street in American Fork.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic at the 2300 West 2150 North intersection in Cranberry Farms.



There will be lane drops at the 200 South crossing in Lehi for crossing upgrade work all week.



There will be truck traffic and a lane closure on 900 North in Lehi.



Lehi Station:

A portion of the Lehi Station Park and Ride Lot is now open for public use.



Work continues this week on the step walls and scaffolding on the Garden Drive side of the pedestrian tunnel. At the Park and Ride Lot, conduit and curb and gutter work and rock installation at the detention pond continues.



Area 11 — Main Street (American Fork) to University Parkway (Orem)



Construction Activity:

Crews will de-stress the track between 100 East and 1500 South in American Fork and hydroseed along the corridor between 5200 North in Vineyard and University Parkway in Orem. Fiber installation will take place in Orem between Geneva Road and 400 South and 800 South and University Parkway.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic at 1600 North in Vineyard.



American Fork Station:

A portion of the American Fork Station Park and Ride Lot is now open for public use.

Vineyard Future Station:

Orem Station:

Area 16 — Downtown Salt Lake City to 4500 South (Murray)



Construction Activity:

Utility work continues at 1700 South and 3900 South, and at the 3300 South bridge, crews will restore sidewalks. South of 3900 South, crews will be constructing a retaining wall, and at the Central Avenue bridge, crews will be constructing walls at both bridge abutments. Between Central Avenue and 4500 South, crews will continue to embank the track way and will also place wick drains near Big Cottonwood Creek. At the 4500 South bridge, crews will continue work on one of the abutment back walls.



Traffic Impacts:

The eastbound and westbound right lanes on 3300 South will be closed Monday through Thursday.



There will be truck traffic with flaggers on 300 West just north of 3900 South Monday through Friday.



Central Avenue is currently closed at the tracks for wall construction.



Salt Lake Central Station:

Station complete.



Area 15 — 4500 South (Murray) to Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale)



Construction Activity:

At the 5300 South bridge, crews will be restoring sidewalks, and between 5900 South and I-215 westbound, crews will pour a retaining wall footing. At 7800 South crews will be installing power.



Traffic Impacts:

The 4500 South Frontage Road is currently closed at the tracks for bridge work through the end of August.



On 5300 South, the westbound right lane will be closed on Monday and the eastbound right lane will be closed Monday through Thursday.



Crews will be moving a crane on 5900 South on Monday.



Murray Station:

Excavation for canopy light pole foundations continues this week; crews will also be placing junction boxes.



Area 14 — Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale) to 14600 South (Bluffdale)



General Information:

Between Wasatch Street and 9000 South, crews will finish backfilling trenches and grouting boxes and also abandon two manholes. North of the 9000 South bridge, crews will continue excavation for a retaining wall, and at the 9000 South bridge, crews will drill nails at the south abutment. Crews will be excavating at the 9120 bridge and for the retaining wall between 9000 South and 9120 South. Crossing upgrades continue through Wednesday at the 10000 South crossing in conjunction with South Jordan’s road widening project. Crossing upgrades include signal and track work, the installation of concrete medians and signs, road striping, and asphalt replacement.



At 10200 South, crews will continue a gas line casing extension, and at the 10600 South bridge, crews will be pouring concrete for a pier transition. At 11400 South, crews will surface, line and dress track and also de-stress track in preparation for a shifting of Union Pacific, and at the Bangerter Highway bridge, crews will continue work on back and wing walls. South of Bangerter Highway, crews will continue to embank the track way.



Traffic Impacts:

The eastbound left lane turn pocket will be closed on 9000 South on Thursday.



On 9120 South there will be a lane shift of the westbound right lane and a westbound sidewalk closure on Monday and a lane shift of the eastbound right lane and an eastbound sidewalk closure on Tuesday.



There will be truck traffic with flaggers on 9400 South Monday through Wednesday.



The 10000 South crossing will be closed for crossing upgrade work through Wednesday, August 18. Through traffic should detour north to 9400 South and no pedestrian access will be available across the crossing.



The eastbound or westbound left lane on 10600 South will be closed Thursday.



South Jordan Station:

Lightweight fill for the job is being stored at the station site. There are no construction activities to report.



Draper Future Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Area 13 — 14600 South (Bluffdale) to Thanksgiving Point (Lehi)



Construction Activity:

Crews will be clearing and grubbing the corridor and excavating south of 14600 South as well as continuing demolition of existing Union Pacific track in the Jordan Narrows. Work at a Jordan River bridge retrofit includes repairing a bent cap and rip rap installation. Slope excavation and stabilization below the Thanksgiving Point golf course continues.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.

Crews will also be construction a retaining wall along Center Street. Between Center Street and 300 East crews will be prepping the sub grade and from 300 East to 7350 West, crews will clear and grub the corridor and stabilize the grade.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be a lane closure with flaggers on Garden Drive near the pedestrian tunnel on Monday and Tuesday.



There will be truck traffic with flaggers in the following Lehi locations this week:

· 1500 North, Tuesday through Thursday

· 1220 North, Tuesday through Thursday

· 900 North, Monday through Thursday



The Center Street crossing will be closed for crossing upgrade work Monday, August 16 through Sunday, August 22. Traffic will be detoured on 300 South, 500 West and 700 South.



Lehi Station:

A portion of the Lehi Station Park and Ride Lot is now open for public use.



At the pedestrian tunnel, crews will build forms and pour concrete for the tunnel walls. At the Park and Ride Lot, crews will continue curb and gutter work and also set light conduit.



Area 11 — Main Street (American Fork) to University Parkway (Orem)



Construction Activity:

Between the American Fork River and University Parkway in Orem, crews will install signal conduit and pull boxes. In American Fork, crews will finish crossing upgrades at the 1100 South and 1500 South crossings, and in Vineyard, crews will surface, line and dress the track near the box culvert recently constructed at Anderson Geneva.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic, equipment and lane restrictions with flaggers in the areas of the 1100 South and 1500 South crossings in American Fork all week so crews can finish crossing upgrades.



American Fork Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Vineyard Future Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Orem Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Area 10 — University Parkway (Orem) to Center Street (Provo)



General Information:

Significant progress has been made in Area 10 along the Union Pacific Railroad corridor between University Parkway in Orem and Freedom Boulevard in Provo. Crews have prepared a path for FrontRunner by grading and clearing the right-of-way and relocating water lines. Drainage and irrigation installations are generally complete in this area, and main line earthwork has been finalized from University Parkway to 2000 South in Orem and from the Provo River bridge to 500 West in Provo. At-grade crossing improvements have also been completed in Provo at 2000 North, 2800 West, 1680 North, 820 North, Draper Lane, 900 West, 700 West, 500 West and Freedom Boulevard.



Construction Activity:

Just south of University Parkway in Orem, crews will excavate and pour a foundation pad for a replacement sound wall, and between 1680 North and I-15 in Provo, crews will install power. Between the Provo River bridge and 900 West, crews will remove poles, and at 900 West 500 South, crews will finish the road realignment. Between 900 West and 700 West crews will build a concrete lid for a drainage system and between Freedom Boulevard and University Avenue, crews will pave for a switch and stage ties. Crews will also be staging ties and rail between University Avenue and 900 South. Also in this area, crews will pour an asphalt turnout and place sub ballast.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be a shoulder closure on 500 West Tuesday through Friday.



Provo Station:

Below is the FrontRunner South construction update for August 7 – 13. Please note that construction information is subject to change.



FrontRunner South construction began in 2008 and is approximately 50 percent complete. The FrontRunner South line will be complete and operational by 2015. Area 16 — Downtown Salt Lake City to 4500 South (Murray)



Construction Activity:

Crews will be working on waterline casings on 1700 South on Monday and on 3900 South Monday through Friday. At the 3300 South bridge, crews will continue work on the south abutment slope. Between 3300 South and Central Avenue, crews will continue to embank the track way and excavate for a retaining wall that will run just south of 3900 South. On the south side of the Central Avenue bridge, crews will excavate, and form and pour a leveling pad for a wall footing. They will also place wall panels and backfill them at the Central Avenue bridge. Between Central Avenue and 4500 South, crews will embank the track way and place wick sand, and at the 4500 South bridge, crews will work on wing and back walls at one of the north abutments.



Traffic Impacts:

The center turn lane and eastbound and westbound left lanes will be closed on 1700 South for utility work on Monday.



The eastbound right lane on 3300 South will be closed Monday through Thursday.



There will be single lane traffic with flaggers on 300 West just north of 3900 South for utility work Monday through Friday.



There will be truck traffic with flaggers on Central Avenue Monday through Friday.



The westbound right lane on 4500 South will be closed Monday through Thursday.



Salt Lake Central Station:

Station complete.



Area 15 — 4500 South (Murray) to Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale)



Construction Activity:

Crews will extend a waterline casing on the 4500 South Frontage Road and will form and pour concrete for an abutment slope at the 5300 South bridge. Work on retaining walls that will run between 5900 South and I-215 will also begin this week.



Traffic Impacts:

The 4500 South Frontage Road is currently closed at the tracks for bridge work through the end of August.



The westbound right lane on 5300 South will be closed Monday through Thursday.



There will be truck traffic with flaggers on 5900 South Monday through Thursday.



Murray Station:

Crews will continue to excavate for canopy light pole foundations at the Station.



Area 14 — Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale) to 14600 South (Bluffdale)



General Information:

Considerable progress has been made on the flyover structure west of Salt Lake Community College’s Miller Campus at 9800 South. The 642-foot flyover bridge features a 40-foot-high bridge deck that will allow FrontRunner to travel from the east to the west side of Union Pacific Railroad’s track way. The flyover structure’s approaches consist of keystone block MSE walls filled entirely with lightweight fill to minimize settlement.



Construction Activity:

Between Wasatch Street and 9000 South, crews will finish installing reinforced concrete pipe, install a box, backfill trenches and grout boxes. On the north side of the 9000 South bridge, crews will excavate for a retaining wall, and at the 9120 South bridge, crews will finish installing shoring and excavate and drill nails at the bridge’s north abutment. Crossing upgrades will take place at the 10000 South crossing in conjunction with South Jordan’s road widening project. Crossing upgrades include signal and track work, the installation of concrete medians and signs, road striping, and asphalt replacement. Crews will also be repairing and proofing power conduit and installing duct bank at 10000 South.



At 10200 South, crews will be extending a gas line casing, and at the 10600 South bridge crews will be working on two of the bridge piers and one of the abutments. Between Jordan Gateway and 11400 South, crews will continue installing chain link fence, and at 11400 South, crews will place ties and construct and surface, line and dress track in preparation for a shifting of Union Pacific track. Between 11400 South and Bangerter Highway, crews will install duct bank, and at the Bangerter Highway bridge, crews will build forms and pour concrete for back and wing walls. South of Bangerter Highway, crews will install chain link and 5-strand barb wire fencing, clear and grub the corridor and embank the track way.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be a right shoulder closure on the I-15 southbound off-ramp to 9000 South one day this week so crews can load a crane near the 9000 South bridge site. This shoulder closure will likely take place on Tuesday.



There will be a lane shift of the westbound right lane on 9120 South Monday through Friday.



There will be truck traffic with flaggers on 9400 South Monday through Thursday.



The 10000 South crossing will be closed for crossing upgrade work Monday, August 9 through Wednesday, August 18. Through traffic should detour north to 9400 South and no pedestrian access will be available across the crossing.



The eastbound left lane on 10600 South will be closed Monday through Thursday during the day as well as two nights this week.



The eastbound right lane on Bangerter Highway will be closed Monday through Thursday



South Jordan Station:

Lightweight fill for the job is being stored at the station site. There are no construction activities to report.



Draper Future Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Area 13 — 14600 South (Bluffdale) to Thanksgiving Point (Lehi)



Construction Activity:

Work on a water line casing near 15000 South, demolition of existing Union Pacific track in the Jordan Narrows and slope excavation and stabilization below the Thanksgiving Point golf course continues this week. Crews will also be working the deck and girders of the Jordan River bridge.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



Area 12 — Thanksgiving Point (Lehi) to Main Street (American Fork)



General Information:

Crews are currently constructing two major bridges in Lehi at 2300 West and 2100 North. The 2300 West bridge will allow FrontRunner to travel over Lehi City’s future 2300 West road project and the 2100 North bridge will span UDOT’s future Mountain View Corridor, 2100 North roadway. The 2100 North bridge will feature abutments on each end of the bridge and five center piers. For the purposes of this publication, the piers are numbered 1 through 5 starting at the southern end of the bridge.



Construction Activity:

At the 2300 West bridge, crews will backfill at the south abutment, and at the 2100 North bridge, crews will work on the bridge parapet, deck and ballast walls. Between 2100 North and 1500 North, crews will continue to install permanent fencing and will also prep the sub grade, and from 1500 North to 900 North, crews will embank the track way. South of 900 North, crews will construct a retaining wall and between Main Street and Center Street, crews will work on signal systems. Between 200 South and Center Street, crews will install duct bank, and between 300 South and Center Street, crews will remove trees and stumps and excavate and construct a retaining wall.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic with flaggers in the following Lehi locations this week:

· Club House Drive near Executive Parkway, Monday through Friday

· Garden Drive near the pedestrian tunnel, Monday through Friday

· 1500 North, Wednesday and Thursday

· 1220 North, Wednesday and Thursday

· 900 North, Monday through Thursday



Lehi Station:

A portion of the Lehi Station Park and Ride Lot is now open for public use.



At the pedestrian tunnel, crews will build forms and pour concrete for the ramp walls, form the tunnel walls and backfill the tunnel ramps. At the Park and Ride Lot, crews will continue curb and gutter work.



Area 11 — Main Street (American Fork) to University Parkway (Orem)



Construction Activity:

In American Fork, crews will be finishing crossing upgrades at the 100 East, 1100 South and 1500 South crossings. In Vineyard, crews will place ties and skeletonize track near the box culvert recently constructed at Anderson Geneva, and, in Orem between 400 South and 800 South, crews will de-stress track.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic with flaggers and equipment in the area of the 1500 South crossing in American Fork all week so crews can finish crossing upgrades.



American Fork Station:

Crews will be installing monument sign lighting at the American Fork Park and Ride Lot.



Vineyard Future Station:

Orem Station:

The westbound right lane on 5300 South will be closed Monday through Thursday.



Murray Station:

Construction continues on the retaining wall just south of 10600 South, and from Jordan Gateway to 11400 South, crews will continue chain link fence installation along the corridor. At 11400 South, crews will begin excavating the roadway, install drainage, and place ties and construct track in preparation for a shifting of Union Pacific track. Between 12300 South and Bangerter Highway, crews will place structural fill, and at the Bangerter Highway bridge, crews will pour concrete for two abutment beam seats and for a wall footing. They will also be placing retaining wall panels.

The westbound right lane on 9000 South will be closed Monday through Friday.

South of 900 North, crews will finish retaining wall excavation, form and pour concrete for the wall footing and begin wall construction. Between 300 South and Center Street, crews will work on mass embankment, and between 300 East and 7350 West, crews will build an access road and also lower cable for Union Pacific.

Between 300 South and Center Street, crews will finish removing trees along the UTA right of way and begin clearing and grubbing other vegetation in the corridor, and between 300 East and 7350 West, crews will work on embankment.

In American Fork, crossing upgrades will finish this week at the 100 West and 100 East crossings and begin at the 1100 South crossing. Upgrades include signal and track work, the installation of concrete medians and signs, road striping, and asphalt replacement.



In Vineyard near the Vineyard Station platform, crews will continue constructing a box culvert, and in Orem between 800 South and University Parkway, crews will surface, line and dress the main UTA track and place ties for and skeletonize a second track.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic on Millpond Road near 300 East Monday through Friday.



There will be alternating traffic impacts at the 100 West and 100 East crossings in American Fork all week so crews can finish crossing upgrade work.



The 1100 South crossing in American Fork will be closed for crossing upgrade work Monday through Sunday.

Area 10 — University Parkway (Orem) to Center Street (Provo)



General Information:

Significant progress has been made in Area 10 along the Union Pacific Railroad corridor between University Parkway in Orem and Freedom Boulevard in Provo. Crews have prepared a path for FrontRunner by grading and clearing the right-of-way and relocating water lines. Drainage and irrigation installations are generally complete in this area, and main line earthwork has been finalized from University Parkway to 2000 South in Orem and from the Provo River bridge to 500 West in Provo. At-grade crossing improvements have also been completed in Provo at 2000 North, 2800 West, 1680 North, 820 North, Draper Lane, 900 West, 700 West, 500 West and Freedom Boulevard.



Construction Activity:

Between University Parkway in Orem and 2000 North in Provo, crews will continue to de-stress rail and surface, line and dress the track for the second line. Between University Avenue and 900 South, crews will lower a Union Pacific phone cable duct, work on mass excavation of the grade, install duct bank for UTA’s line, and install signal conduit.

FrontRunner South construction began in 2008 and is approximately 50 percent complete. The FrontRunner South line will be complete and operational by 2015. Area 16 — Downtown Salt Lake City to 4500 South (Murray)



Construction Activity:

At the 3300 South bridge, crews will install slope paving for one of the bridge’s abutments. Crews will be driving H-pile and installing form footings for the 4500 South bridge this week.



Traffic Impacts:

Please note that Central Avenue has reopened until crews resume work on the bridge walls.



Salt Lake Central Station:

Station complete.



Area 15 — 4500 South (Murray) to Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale)



Construction Activity:

At the 5300 South bridge, precast column work continues – including setting columns and installing a pier cap. Girders have been installed at the 7200 South bridge, and bridge superstructure work continues this week.



Traffic Impacts:

· The 4500 South Frontage Road is closed at the tracks for bridge work through the end of August.

· 5300 South – westbound lanes will be closed and the eastbound left lane will be closed on

Tuesday night from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.



Murray Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Area 14 — Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale) to 14600 South (Bluffdale)



General Information:

Considerable progress has been made on the flyover structure west of Salt Lake Community College’s Miller Campus at 9800 South. The 642-foot flyover bridge features a 40-foot-high bridge deck that will allow FrontRunner to travel from the east to the west side of Union Pacific Railroad’s track way. The flyover structure’s approaches consist of keystone block MSE walls filled entirely with lightweight fill to minimize settlement.



Construction Activity:

Phase one of the retaining wall between 9120 South and 9400 South is complete. Crews will finish installing pile for the 9120 South bridge’s south abutment. Crews will be conducting signal work and install a signal house near 10000 South. Sewer and drainage improvement work near 10600 South continues. Crews will install sewer casings and storm drains this week. Bridgework at 10600 South continues as crews prepare to install piers.



Crews will install chain link fence along the corridor and place sub-ballast alone the line between Jordan Gateway and 11400 South. Crews will build skeletonized track for the UPRR shoofly near 11400 South. Wrap-around wall construction continues at the Bangerter Highway bridge. This week crews will form and pour abutment footings, place panels and backfill to the panels.



Traffic Impacts:

· 9000 South – eastbound and westbound left lanes will be closed on Wednesday night from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.

· 9400 South – there will be truck traffic with flaggers Monday through Thursday.

· 10000 South – a single lane will be closed with flaggers Monday through Wednesday.

· 10800 South – one eastbound and one westbound lane will be closed Monday through Thursday.



South Jordan Station:

Lightweight fill for the job is being stored at the station site.



Draper Future Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Area 13 — 14600 South (Bluffdale) to Thanksgiving Point (Lehi)



Construction Activity:

Slope excavation below the Thanksgiving Point golf course continues. UPRR mainline relocation work in the area also continues.

Area 12 — Thanksgiving Point (Lehi) to Main Street (American Fork)



General Information:

Crews are currently constructing two major bridges in Lehi at 2300 West and 2100 North. The 2300 West bridge will allow FrontRunner to travel over Lehi City’s future 2300 West road project and the 2100 North bridge will span UDOT’s future Mountain View Corridor, 2100 North roadway. The 2100 North bridge will feature abutments on each end of the bridge and five center piers. For the purposes of this publication, the piers are numbered 1 through 5 starting at the southern end of the bridge.



Construction Activity:

Crews will install a wing wall leading up to the 2300 West bridge’s south abutment. At the 2100 North bridge, crews will pour concrete for the bridge deck and ballast walls.



Crews will conduct mass embankment work and clear and grub the corridor between 1500 North and 900 North in Lehi. Crews will excavate and stabilize footings for a wall near Woods Drive.



Traffic Impacts:

· Executive Parkway and Clubhouse Drive – truck traffic with flaggers Monday through Thursday.

· Garden Drive – truck traffic with flaggers near the pedestrian tunnel site.

· 1500 North, Lehi – truck traffic with flaggers Monday through Thursday.

· 1220 North, Lehi – truck traffic with flaggers Tuesday through Thursday.

· 900 North, Lehi – truck traffic with flaggers Monday through Thursday.



Lehi Station:

Phase one of three of the Lehi Station Park and Ride Lot is now open for public use. Work at the Lehi Station pedestrian tunnel is progressing. Crews have completed the main section of tunnel that spans from the east side to the west side of the railroad corridor. Work on pedestrian ramps and stairs that connect the tunnel to the station platform continues this week.



Area 11 — Main Street (American Fork) to University Parkway (Orem)



Construction Activity:

Significant track work, including installing ballast mats and dressing track, continues throughout the reach. The 100 West American Fork at-grade crossing is substantially complete, and 100 East crossing upgrade work will continue this week. Road realignment and at-grade crossing work also continues near the 1500 South at-grade crossing in American Fork. This week crews will conduct island embankment and concrete work. Between University Parkway and 800 South in Orem, crews will surface, line and dress the track and stage ties for the future UTA mainline #2.



Traffic Impacts:

· 100 East, American Fork – truck traffic with flaggers Monday through Thursday.

· 200 South, American Fork – truck traffic with flaggers near American Fork Station site Monday through Thursday.

· 1100 South, American Fork – truck traffic with flaggers Monday through Thursday.



American Fork Station:

Work at the American Fork Park and Ride lot is nearly complete. Crews will be conducting punch list walks this week at the site.

General Information:

Couple of points.

The announcement about Provo mentions that it will be a multi-model depot but I see nothing about integrating the facility with the Amtrak station which is actually located on the far side of Freedom Blvd from the new Front Runner station.

Hopefully the new TOD at the 3900 South will be true TOD and not just TAD. Hopefully it will also integrate with the growing new community in the area.

UTA Awarded $5.4 Million In Federal Grants





U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Federal Transit Administrator Peter Rogoff announced Thursday that Utah will receive two grants for $5.4 million under the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Livability Initiative.



The Utah Transit Authority was awarded the two grants through the Federal Transit Administration’s competitive Bus and Bus Facilities grant program, which makes federal funds available to public transit providers to construct bus-related facilities. The grants include $5 million for the Provo Intermodal Center and $400,000 for the 3900 South Meadowbrook TRAX station.



“These competitive grants support our communities’ vision for increased access to public transit,” UTA General Manager Mike Allegra said. “By awarding these grants, Secretary LaHood and Administrator Rogoff recognize our efforts in building a strong transit system that will soon connect Provo to Salt Lake and beyond.”



The Provo Intermodal Center, located between Freedom Boulevard and University Avenue at approximately 700 South in Provo, will be a major new multi-modal transit hub. It will include 850 parking stalls, a 12-bay bus transfer terminal, and a connection for the future Provo-Orem bus rapid transit line. It is expected to open concurrently with the FrontRunner Salt Lake City to Provo line in 2014. In the future, the facility is planned to include bicycle facilities and other transit-oriented development.



Regarding the Provo grant, the office of Rep. Jason Chaffetz released the following statement, "FTA's announcement is great news for Provo and Utah County. An intermodal center in the heart of Provo has many advantages. Residents will appreciate one-stop, quick and easy access to commuter rail, bus, and other transportation options. This project will play an important role in addressing the needs of an ever more upwardly mobile workforce and community."



The $400,000 grant will go toward converting the 3900 South Meadowbrook TRAX station in South Salt Lake from a park-and-ride stop to a transit-oriented development. The grant money will be used to replace existing surface parking with a new parking deck and reconfiguring the bus loop.



These infrastructure changes will allow redevelopment of the remainder of the block. Proposed new structures include a 60,000 square foot office/educational building, 7,000 square feet of retail and an 88 unit apartment building.

Lane Closures On 9000 South This Weekend For FrontRunner Bridge Construction

Utah Transit Authority will be closing lanes and restricting traffic on a section of 9000 South between I-15 and Sandy Parkway this weekend, July 9-12. The closures will take place Friday night from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. Saturday and again Saturday evening at 8 p.m. through Monday, July 12 at 5 a.m.

The closures are for bridge construction work on the Utah Transit Authority’s FrontRunner Provo to Salt Lake City commuter rail project.

All westbound lanes on 9000 South will be completely closed while eastbound traffic will be restricted by a double lane closure. Both northbound and southbound on– and off-ramps to I-15 will remain open throughout the closures. However, all traffic exiting the freeway will be detoured eastbound on 9000 South to State Street.



To travel west on 9000 South, UTA recommends either a detour north on State Street to 7800 South then west to 700 West and Sandy Parkway, or a detour south on State Street to 10600 South and Jordan Gateway.

Crews will conduct mass embankment work, place sub-ballast and stage railroad ties along the line between Jordan Gateway and 11400 South. Additionally, crews will place bottom ballast, stage railroad ties and skeletonize ties for a UPRR shoofly near 11400 South. Wrap-around wall construction continues at the Bangerter Highway bridge. Crews will also start Bangerter Highway bridge center pier restoration work and install and backfill abutment panels.



Traffic Impacts:

· 9120 South – eastbound right lane closure Monday through Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

· 9120 South – westbound right lane closure Thursday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

· 10000 South – eastbound lane closure with flaggers Tuesday through Friday.

· 10800 South – right lanes will be closed in each direction to accommodate truck traffic all week.

Crossing upgrade work at this crossing includes installing new active signal devices, installing new concrete crossing panels and constructing new track. Road realignment and at-grade crossing work also continues near the 1500 South at-grade crossing in American Fork.

· 100 East, American Fork – full road closure at the crossing Monday through Sunday.
