Here is a perfect corridor for a rapid streetcar. It would cost less than putting in full blow LRT but would also do more than BRT.

In fact it would not only be natural to run this line from the West Valley Transit Center to SLCC to the Murray Central TRAX/Front Runner station which would also serve IHC (better known as the Death Star to many) and then continue it down State to Fashion Place Mall and over to the Fort Union Area.

The Eugene BRT was impressive, and such a system for a Taylorsville-Murray line is under consideration, Chesnut said.

This comment is almost laughable. In what way was it impressive? The fact that it has higher ridership than the bus route it replaced (of course when mentioning this few say that the old bus line charged fares and the BRT is free..).

Once again we see the same BS about BRT being cheaper when it is not if you compare equal systems. Plus the fact that rail is more efficient at handling the passengers than BRT. Hopefully once the new President takes office this BS will stop being so common.

UTA To Host Open House On

Taylorsville-Murray Transit Study

What: The Utah Transit Authority is hosting an open house to introduce the Taylorsville-Murray Transit Study. UTA will be gathering input on current transportation use, and provide an overview of transit options for the Taylorsville-Murray community. The study area is between State Street and 2700 West and 3900 South to 5400 South. The study is a collaborative effort between, UTA, the Wasatch Front Regional Council, Salt Lake County, and the cities of Taylorsville and Murray.

Where: Salt Lake Community College Redwood Campus Student Center (Enter campus at 4445 South off of Redwood Road, turn south at the third entrance and park in the pay lot north of the Student Center, parking will be validated at the open house).

When: Thursday, Sept. 25, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

UTA Moving toward Rail...

UTA is moving forward with rail

Article on how UTA is getting ready for major construction on rail lines.

Of course they always have to "balance" the article with someone who is still living in the dark ages and in this case it is Taylorsville mayor Russ Wall. He says he wants a more balanced approach with more roads.

Isn't it interesting that they could be calling for a more balanced approach when for the last 60 the highway men have been in charge?

Maybe Mr. Wall needs to look toward the way his own city is developing and realize that he and his cohorts in city government have created the problems they are facing. Just look at the poorly designed developments from 5400 South to Interstate 15 on Redwood Roads. Once again you have developments that increase traffic congestion not help with it. There is nothing in this area to encourage walking and not taking a car from one store to another.

I also wonder where Mr. Wall thinks that new roads will be built. Should they take tax producing properties and make more roads?
