Transit funding held up
Well it looks like everyone's biggest fear about the vote on the transporatation tax is coming true. I think it is pretty clear that when the voters went into the voting booth they where voting to expand the TRAX system and improve transportation in Salt Lake County.
However, I am sure many of them like me had the nagging little twitch in the back of their heads that said "can we trust our legislators to do what is best"? Many people have distrust of our state legislators because they have proven over and over again that they are controlled by special interest (especially big business), self serving, and only care about what is in it for them.
I love the comments from the big windbag Greg Curtis accusing the Salt Lake County council of playing politics. After all, he knows what the voters voted for but all he cares about is that soccor stadium so the voters be damned.
The voters wanted TRAX. TRAX is needed. Lets get the ball rolling and stop crap.

"New" Draperites Whining Goes On.....

Here we go again, a small group of "new" Draperites want to stop the light rail line from going down the best path. Instead they rather see it go down State which would slow it downa and create other issues.
I walk the Rockwell Trail sometimes and just knew that some of the people buying some of those overpriced homes would hate to see the big mean evil light rail train going any where near their precious homes.
Hopefully common sense will prevail and UTA will not become like the MTA in Los Angeles and give in to every little NIMBY and BANANA that comes along.

Compare that to the bus system where they continue to support putting wraps on the buses that make looking out the windows a pain and discourage ridership.

My Proposed UTA Restructuring Route 631 and 632
My proposal to revamp Utah Transit Authority Bus service.
Route 631 and 632:
Route 631 will replace existing 640 service from WSU to Layton Hills Mall. Route will return servicing 1050 West, Ritter Road, and Freeway Park Drive. Route will also use the primary routing via 1000 East in Clearfield. Route will also be extended to the Layton Frontrunner Station via Hillfield Road and State Street. Service will also be extended via Harrison to the Ogden Clinic.
Route 632 will follow the route of 631 and provide alternating service from the Ogden Clinic to 1900 West and Riverdale then via Riverdale, 5200 South, 2200 West, 5600 South, 2700 West, 6000 South, 1500 West, Clinton Road, 1000 West, 200 South, Main, 700 South, 9th Street and Antelope to 1700 West where it will follow the route of the 631 to th Layton Hills Frontrunner station. When the Clearfield Freeport Center is closed will operate via 1000 West and Antelope.
Frequency: Each Route will run Monday-Saturday every 30-minutes. Route 631 will run Sundays every 60-minutes. Routes will provide alternating every 15-minute service along shared portions of the route.
Buses: 30-foot buses.
Replaces Route 640 and the 632 repalces a portion of Route 604.
Route 631 and 632:

Transit Center. My proposed restructuring of Utah Transit Authority bus service.
Route 935:
From the Sandy Civic Center TRAX station via Sego Lily, East Dell Drive, 9400 South, then a loop of 9400 South, 3100 East, and Mount Jordan Road, then via 9400 South, Quail Hollow, Falcon Way, and Highland Drive to the Highland Drive Transit Center. Then via Highland Drive, Alta Canyon Road, Escalante, Robidoux Road, Willow Creek Drive, Bridger Blvd, Alta Canyon Road, Willow Hills Drive, Qual Hollow, Newcastle/8600 South/8680 South, and 300 East to the Historic Sandy TRAX station. Then via 300 East, 9400 South, 255 West, 10000 South, Centennial Drive, Southtowne Mall, 10600 South, State Street, and 10000 South/Sego Lily Drive to the Sandy Civic Center TRAX Station.
Frequency: Route will run both clockwise and counter-clockwise with buses running Monday-Friday 30-minutes and Saturdays 60-minutes.

Then via Pony Express Drive, Bangerter Highway, 13800 South/Minuteman Drive, and Highland to the Point of the Mountain Transit Center. Then via Highland Drive, Bangerter Road?, 13800 South, 300 East, and 12600 South to the Draper Transit Center. Then via 12600 South/Draper Parkway, 1000 East/Carnation, 700 East, and Sego Lily to the Sandy Civic Center TRAX station.

My Proposed UTA Restructuring Route 900
My proposed restructuring of Utah Transit Authority Bus Service.
The 900 series routes will be shuttle routes such as a downtown shuttle or routes that will circulate through communities.
Route 900:
From the Intermodal Depot via 600 West, 200 South, 300 West, 400 North, 200 West, North Temple, Main Street/Columbus Street, 500 North, East Capital Blvd/Panther Way, State Street (buses traveling other direction will use State, Panther, Main Street), South Temple, West Temple, 100 South, Main Street, 800 South, 200 East, 400 South, 300 West, 200 South, and 600 West back to the Intermodal Depot.
Buses: UTA should buy some Trolley Replica buses like the ones that where purchased in '81 and saw limited service in a toursit loop for many summers.
Another Note: Even though this route does go out of the borders of the fare free zone (but only a couple of blocks in any direction) this route should not collect fares.
Frequency: Monday-Friday 10-minutes, Saturdays-Sundays 15-minutes.
Replaces: Route 23.
