West Valley TRAX Construction Update

Welcome!

Progress continues on the construction of the West Valley TRAX Line. To keep business and traffic impacts to a minimum, this five-mile project has been separated into seven construction “reaches,” or segments, for management and planning purposes.

A description of what is happening in each area is listed below. If you need further construction information, please call our toll-free 24-hour hotline at (888) 800-8854.





Reach 1

Reach Description: Reach 1 is the area along Constitution Boulevard (2700 West) from West Valley City Hall at 3600 South, extending north to 3100 South. This area includes both large and small businesses, as well as many residents. Access to all businesses and residences will be maintained.



Current Construction:

· Work continues on the station canopy at West Valley City Hall as crews install wiring, lighting and masonry.

· The West Valley City Hall parking lot on Market Street will close on Friday, Sept. 24, as crews make asphalt repairs in this area.

· Crews will also repair asphalt at the Toys R Us loading dock off of Market Street on Tuesday, Sept. 28.



Reach 2

Reach Description: Reach 2 is the area along 3100 South from Constitution Boulevard to Decker Lake Drive. The Maverik Center and a few other businesses are located in this reach, as well as residents on either side of 3100 South. We will coordinate our work to maintain access throughout construction, and in particular to the Maverik Center during their events. When TRAX is completed along 3100 South, it will operate on the south side of the roadway.



Current Construction:

· Curb and sidewalk work, along with various punch list items, continue in this area.



Reach 3

Reach Description: Reach 3 is the area along Decker Lake Drive from 3100 South to Research Way (2770 South) and east to Redwood Road. This area includes many commercial office buildings with thousands of employees. We will continue to work with businesses to ensure access is maintained.



Current Construction:

· Work continues at the station platform located at Decker Lake Drive and 3100 South.

· Crews are distributing rail, ties and ballast in the center of Research Way.

· Work continues on the station in the center of Research Way just west of Redwood Road.



Reach 4

Reach Description: Reach 4 runs through the Chesterfield residential area along 2770 South and along the Decker Lake Canal and the Crosstowne Trail. We will work with residents to ensure a safe working environment that provides access to their properties throughout construction.



Current Construction:

· Significant work has been accomplished in the Chesterfield area. Crews continue to work on various items throughout this reach.





Reach 5

Reach Description: Reach 5 includes construction along 1070 West in the Chesterfield industrial area. This reach includes one bridge structure over the Jordan River and another over 900 West.



Current Construction:

· Crews will stripe the roadway on 1070 West and begin street sign installation this week.

· Crews will continue rail and station work in the center of 1070 West.

· Work also continues on the Jordan River Bridge and tunnel.



Reach 6

Reach Description: Reach 6 runs through the Union Pacific Railroad’s Roper Yard area. Although there are no businesses and residents, extensive coordination will take place to ensure that freight deliveries and other train travel is maintained. Reach 6 includes an extensive bridging system that will enable TRAX to operate over other train traffic.



Current Construction:

· Progress continues on the TRAX bridge structures over 900 West at approximately 2200 South, as well as the Union Pacific Railroad Roper Yard area.



Reach 7

Reach Description: Reach 7 is the area where the West Valley TRAX Line will connect with the current north/south line. Construction is taking place along Andy Avenue in South Salt Lake. Crews will closely coordinate activities with businesses to ensure access is maintained.



Current Construction:

· Track work continues along Andy Avenue near 300 West in South Salt Lake City.

· Work is also taking place on the overhead electric system.

General Information



Access during Construction

UTA is committed to maintaining 24-hour access to all of the businesses and residences along the construction corridor. We will coordinate with businesses in cases where access may be temporarily limited.



Construction Hours

Construction on the project is permitted to take place between 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Additionally, specific activities may require different working hours depending upon the conditions and will be coordinated with city officials.

West Valley TRAX Construction Update

Our construction team for the West Valley and Airport TRAX Lines has partnered with UTA and local businesses to host a booth today through Sunday. We will be on hand to answer questions about construction and upcoming events. Look for us near the rodeo grounds – and don’t forget to dunk our contractors.

Reach Description: Reach 4 runs through the Chesterfield residential area along 2770 South and along the Decker Lake Canal and the Crosstowne Trail. We will work with residents to ensure a safe working environment that provides access to their properties throughout construction.



Current Construction:

· Significant work has been accomplished in the Chesterfield area. Crews continue to work on various items throughout this reach.





Reach 5

Reach Description: Reach 5 includes construction along 1070 West in the Chesterfield industrial area. This reach includes one bridge structure over the Jordan River and another over 900 West.



Current Construction:

· Work will continue to take place along the center of 1070 West throughout the summer months.

· Work also continues on the Jordan River Bridge and tunnel.



Traffic Impacts:

· The intersection at 2320 South and 1070 West is scheduled to temporarily close on Saturday, Sept. 18 through Sunday, Sept. 19, so crews can place the final layer of asphalt in this area. Detours will be implemented around this intersection during this closure. More information will be given to businesses as we get closer to this work.



Reach 6

Reach Description: Reach 6 runs through the Union Pacific Railroad’s Roper Yard area. Although there are no businesses and residents, extensive coordination will take place to ensure that freight deliveries and other train travel is maintained. Reach 6 includes an extensive bridging system that will allow TRAX to operate over other train traffic.

Reach 1

Reach Description: Reach 1 is the area along Constitution Boulevard (2700 West) from West Valley City Hall at 3600 South, extending north to 3100 South. This area includes both large and small businesses, as well as many residents. Access to all businesses and residences will be maintained.



Current Construction:

· Crews are working on station canopies near West Valley City Hall.

· Crews are installing landscaping along Constitution Boulevard just south of 3500 South.



Traffic Impacts:

· Crews will install fencing, light poles and wiring over the next few weeks near the station located at West Valley City Hall.



Reach 2

Reach Description: Reach 2 is the area along 3100 South from Constitution Boulevard to Decker Lake Drive. The E Center/Maverick Center and a few other businesses are located in this reach, as well as residents on either side of 3100 South. Access will be maintained and we will coordinate our efforts with the E Center/Maverick Center so you can continue to attend their great events. When TRAX is completed along 3100 South, it will operate on the south side of the roadway.



Current Construction:

· Work continues at the station platform located at Decker Lake Drive and 3100 South.

· Crews are working on curbs and sidewalks near the TRAX Bridge over I-215 on the south side of 3100 South.



Reach 3

Reach Description: Reach 3 is the area along Decker Lake Drive from 3100 South to Research Way (2770 South) and east to Redwood Road. This area includes many commercial office buildings with thousands of employees. We will continue to work with businesses to ensure access is maintained.



Current Construction:

· Crews continue driveway work along the north side of Research Way between Redwood Road and Decker Lake Drive. Access to businesses will be maintained.

· Curb and gutter work is also taking place along the south side of Research Way.



Upcoming Construction:

· Crews have begun laying tracks across Redwood Road at Research Way (2770 South). This work is scheduled to take place for five weeks but will be phased to allow for two lanes in each direction on Redwood Road. Access to businesses will be maintained throughout this portion of construction.





Traffic Impacts: Currently, there are lane restrictions, but access is being maintained.



Reach 4

Reach Description: Reach 4 runs through the Chesterfield residential area along 2770 South and along the Decker Lake Canal and the Crosstowne Trail. We will work with residents to ensure a safe working environment that provides access to their properties.



Current Construction:

· Significant work has been accomplished in the Chesterfield area. Crews continue to work on the rail and other items.





Reach 5

Reach Description: Reach 5 includes construction along 1070 West in the Chesterfield industrial area. This reach includes one bridge structure over the Jordan River and another over 900 West.



Current Construction:

· 1070 West is closed just north of 2320 South and alternate access will be maintained. The roadway is scheduled to reopen in approximately one week.

The map below shows each construction reach in a different color, starting with Reach 1 in light green on the south end of the project and ending with Reach 7 in light green on the east end of the project.

Reach 1

West Valley TRAX Construction Update

Construction continues on the West Valley TRAX Line. To keep business and traffic impacts to a minimum, this five-mile project has been separated into seven construction “reaches,” or segments, for management and planning purposes.

· Crews are forming and pouring the platform at West Valley City Hall.

· Crews are installing sprinklers and placing topsoil in planter islands.



Traffic Impacts:

· The intersection at 3100 South and Constitution Boulevard will temporarily close beginning Saturday, July 31, at 10 p.m. until Monday, August 2, at 5 a.m. This temporary closure is taking place so crews can place the final layer of asphalt in the intersection. Motorists will be required to use posted detours. More information will be included in next week’s weekly construction update.

Reach Description: Reach 2 is the area along 3100 South from Constitution Boulevard to Decker Lake Drive. The E Center and a few other businesses are located in this reach, as well as residents on either side of 3100 South. Access will be maintained and we will coordinate with the E Center so you can continue to visit the great events they have to offer. When TRAX is completed along 3100 South, it will operate on the south side of the roadway.

· Crews will begin work on the north side of 3100 South and Constitution Boulevard early next week. Crews will be removing and replacing driveways. Access to businesses will be maintained.

· Work continues at the station platform located at Decker Lake Drive and 3100 South.

· Crews are working on curbs and sidewalks near the E Center.



Traffic Impacts:

· Traffic control is in place along 3100 South; however, access is being maintained.



Reach 3

Reach Description: Reach 3 is the area along Decker Lake Drive from 3100 South to Research Way (2770 South) and east to Redwood Road. This area includes many commercial office buildings with thousands of employees. We will continue to work with businesses to ensure access is maintained.



Current Construction:

Construction progresses on the West Valley TRAX Line. To keep business and traffic impacts to a minimum, this five-mile project has been separated into seven construction “reaches,” or segments. The map below shows each construction reach in a different color, starting with Reach 1 in light green on the south end of the project and ending with Reach 7 in light green on the east end of the project.

· 300 West at Andy Avenue is scheduled to temporarily close for TRAX construction beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, June 25, until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 28. Crews will be installing the tracks across 300 West. This temporary closure is scheduled during the weekend and nights to minimize impacts to the traveling public. We will meet with businesses to talk about detours to be implemented during this closure.

West Valley TRAX Construction Update

Construction progress continues on the West Valley TRAX Line. To keep business and traffic impacts to a minimum, this five-mile project has been separated into seven construction “reaches,” or segments, for management and planning purposes. The map below shows each construction reach in a different color, starting with Reach 1 in light green on the south end of the project and ending with Reach 7 in light green on the east end of the project.

Reach 1

Reach Description: Reach 1 is the area along Constitution Boulevard (2700 West) from West Valley City Hall at 3600 South extending north to 3100 South. This area includes both large and small businesses, as well as many residents. Access to all businesses and residences will be maintained throughout construction.



Current Construction:

· Overhead wire work continues along Constitution Boulevard.

· Crews are currently forming and pouring the platform at West Valley City Hall.

· A water line is currently being relocated just north of 3500 South on Constitution Boulevard.

· Night work is currently taking place near the 3100 South and Constitution Boulevard intersection. This work is scheduled to last until June 12 as crews work on an electrical communication system. Noise is anticipated to be minimal.



Upcoming Construction:

· Crews will begin installing station canopies and benches during the first few weeks of June.



Traffic Impacts: There are lane restrictions along Constitution Boulevard; however, access is being maintained.



Reach 2

Reach Description: Reach 2 is the area along 3100 South from Constitution Boulevard to Decker Lake Drive. The E Center and a few other businesses are located in this reach, as well as residents on either side of 3100 South. Access will be maintained throughout construction and we will coordinate with the E Center so you can continue to visit the great events they have to offer. When TRAX is completed along 3100 South, it will operate on the south side of the roadway.



Current Construction:

· Work continues on the TRAX bridge approaches over I-215 on the south side of 3100 South.

· Work on the overhead electric system is also taking place near Decker Lake Drive and 3100 South.

· Crews are currently working on curbs and sidewalks near the E Center.



Upcoming Construction:

· Landscaping is scheduled to take place in planter islands toward the end of June.



Traffic Impacts:

· Traffic control is in place along 3100 South; however, access is being maintained throughout the area.



Reach 3

Reach Description: Reach 3 is the area along Decker Lake Drive from 3100 South to Research Way (2770 South) and running east to Redwood Road. This area includes many commercial office buildings with thousands of employees. We will continue to work with businesses to ensure access is maintained.

Current Construction:

· Progress continues on the northern portion of Decker Lake Drive just south of Research Way. This temporary closure is anticipated to last until the first part of June. Access will be maintained to all businesses. We thank the many businesses for their support and patience during construction. Please see the map to the side for detour information.

· Track and station work continues in the center of Decker Lake Drive.

· We encourage motorists to please obey the posted speed limits along Decker Lake Drive.

· Decker Lake Drive is expected to be reopened to north/south traffic in mid-June.

· Third party utility work will continue along Research Way throughout June.

· Crews will begin curb and sidewalk work along Research Way in mid-June.



Traffic Impacts: Currently, there are lane restrictions along Decker Lake Drive and Research Way, but access is being maintained.



Reach 4

Reach Description: Reach 4 runs through the Chesterfield residential area along 2770 South and proceeds along the Decker Lake Canal and the Crosstowne Trail. We will work with residents to ensure a safe working environment that provides access to their properties throughout construction.



Current Construction:

· Significant work has been accomplished in the Chesterfield area. Crews continue to work on the rail and other items in this area.





Reach 5

Reach Description: Reach 5 includes construction along 1070 West in the Chesterfield industrial area. This reach includes one bridge structure over the Jordan River and another over 900 West.



Current Construction:

· Crews are currently excavating the east side of 1070 West. This work will include new curb, gutter, sidewalk, and driveways. Access to all businesses will be maintained.

· We thank businesses for their patience during construction.

· Work also continues on the Jordan River Bridge and tunnel.



Traffic Impacts: There are various lane restrictions on 1070 West; however, access to businesses is being maintained.



Reach 6

Reach Description: Reach 6 runs through the Union Pacific Railroad’s Roper Yard area. Although there are no businesses and residents, extensive coordination will take place to ensure that freight deliveries and other train travel is maintained. Reach 6 includes plans for an extensive bridging system that will enable TRAX to operate over other train traffic.



Current Construction:

· Progress continues on the TRAX bridge structures over 900 West at approximately 2200 South and also at the Union Pacific Railroad Roper Yard area.

· Work is also taking place on the overhead electric system in this area.



Reach 7

Reach Description: Reach 7 is the area where the West Valley Line will connect with the current north/south TRAX Line. Construction will take place along Andy Avenue in South Salt Lake. Crews will closely coordinate activities with businesses to ensure access is maintained.



Current Construction:

· Drainage and track work continues between 300 West and 600 West.

· Crews are also preparing to tie in to the current north/south TRAX Line. This work is scheduled to be completed during the Memorial Day weekend to avoid disruption to riders.



Upcoming Construction:

· To minimize impacts to UTA riders, crews will work the following nights to connect the West Valley TRAX Line to the north/south TRAX Line: Sat. May 29; Sun. May 30; Mon. May 31; Tues. June 1. This work will take place along the UTA-owned right-of-way and will not impact the travelling public.



Traffic Impacts: Currently there are no traffic impacts on Andy Avenue.
