Construction is progressing on UTA’s FrontRunner South Provo to Salt Lake Commuter Rail line.

Area 16 — Downtown Salt Lake City to 4500 South (Murray)
Construction Activity:
Crews will remove slope paving at the 3300 South bridge to prepare for constructing a new bridge for UTA. Also this week, crews will install shoring for the north abutment of the new bridge.
Traffic Impacts:
There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.
Central Avenue has reopened until crews resume work on the bridge walls.
Salt Lake Central Station:
Station complete.
Area 15 — 4500 South (Murray) to Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale)
Construction Activity:
Crews will continue to drive H-pile at the 5300 South bridge. They will also be finishing up the third drilled shaft at 5300 South from Friday night, April 9, through Monday morning, April 12.
At the I-215 westbound bridge, crews will construct a cheek wall and crash cushion and replace a concrete barrier on the freeway. At the 7200 South bridge, crews will place backfill and surcharge and also work on the north abutment and on the wall at the north abutment.
Traffic Impacts:
5300 South will be closed between 300 West and 380 West from Friday, April 9, at 10:00 p.m. through Monday, April 12, at 6:00 a.m. so crews can work on a drilled shaft.
There will be truck traffic with flaggers on 5900 South on Monday.
There will be two lane closures on I-215 westbound from Friday at 10:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The lanes affected are the left lane on the I-15 northbound on-ramp from I-215 westbound and the right lane on I-215 westbound.
Murray Station:
Sub grade prep will take place this week at the site of the station.
Area 14 — Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale) to 14600 South (Bluffdale)
Construction Activity:
Progress continues behind Salt Lake Community College’s Miller Campus at 9800 South as crews construct a bridge that flies over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. This is the area where FrontRunner will move from the east side to the west side of the tracks.
Crews will be installing temporary fencing and clearing and grubbing the corridor between 9000 South and 9400 South and continuing to relocate a storm drain at 9400 South. Work on the north walls of the flyover bridge will resume this week and crews will also be installing handrail, deck plates and shear keys on more of the bridges girders. Clearing and grubbing work will continue between 114000 South and 123000 South and crews will also remove existing fencing in the area. At Corner Canyon crews will be placing a membrane and continuing concrete pipe installation, and at the Bangerter Highway bridge crews will continue driving H-pile and working on a pier column as well as forming and pouring concrete for the bridge’s north abutments.
Traffic Impacts:
The single lane closure on 9400 South will continue Monday through Thursday.
At 10000 South there will be truck traffic with flaggers Tuesday through Thursday.
Monday through Wednesday on Bangerter Highway the two westbound left lanes and a single eastbound left lane will be closed.
South Jordan Station:
Lightweight fill for the flyover bridge construction is being stored at the site of the future South Jordan park and ride lot.
There are no construction activities to report.
Draper Future Station:
Crews will be forming and pouring concrete for the platform footings.
Area 13 — 14600 South (Bluffdale) to Thanksgiving Point (Lehi)
Construction Activity:
Work on the retaining wall south of the 146th South bridge continues this week as does sub grade prep. Crews will also continue to install a gate and fencing at the bridge over the Jordan and Salt Lake Canal. Work on handrail and deck plates will take place at the Jordan River bridge, and at the South Jordan Canal multi plate structure, crews will continue to construct a well house pad and retaining wall as well as backfill at the structure.
Traffic Impacts:
There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.
Area 12 — Thanksgiving Point (Lehi) to Main Street (American Fork)
Construction Activity:
Crews will be restoring sidewalk and curb and gutter along the west side of Garden Drive and continue construction on one of the retaining walls in the Cranberry Farms neighborhood.
The 2100 North bridge in Lehi will consist of two abutments on each end of the bridge and five center piers with the piers being numbered 1 through 5, for this publication, starting at the southern end of the bridge. At pier #4 crews will form, tie rebar and pour concrete for the pier footing and fascia, and work will begin this week on the northernmost pier, #5, with crews installing sheet pile shoring.
Between 1500 North and 1220 North, crews will finish work on a concrete irrigation ditch.
Traffic Impacts:
There will be a lane drop on Garden Drive Tuesday through Friday while crews restore the sidewalk and curb and gutter.
Lehi Station:
A portion of the Lehi Station Park and Ride Lot is now open for public use.
There are no construction activities to report at the station site.
Area 11 — Main Street (American Fork) to University Parkway (Orem)
Construction Activity:
Clearing and grubbing work and irrigation relocations will take place northwest of the American Fork Park and Ride Lot. Track work will take place between Storrs Avenue and 200 South in American Fork and from 6400 North to 5200 North in Vineyard. Between 400 North in Vineyard and Geneva Road in Orem, crews will place sub ballast and ballast, and crossing improvements at the Geneva Road crossing will also take place at the end of the week. From Geneva Road to 400 South crews will embank the track way and place sub ballast and between 400 South and 800 South crews will install a concrete irrigation ditch.
Traffic Impacts:
There will be truck traffic with flaggers at 400 North in Vineyard Monday through Thursday.
There will be truck traffic with flaggers on Geneva Road in Orem, just north of 400 South, Monday through Thursday.
The Geneva Road crossing will be closed for crossing upgrades Saturday, April 10, at 1:00 p.m. through Monday, April 12, at 5:00 a.m.
American Fork Station:
Crews will continue paving and curb and gutter installation in the Park and Ride Lot.
Vineyard Future Station:
There are no construction activities to report.
Orem Station:
There are no construction activities to report.
Area 10 — University Parkway (Orem) to Center Street (Provo)
Construction Activity:
Significant progress has been made in Area 10 along the Union Pacific Railroad corridor between University Parkway in Orem and Freedom Boulevard in Provo. Crews have prepared a path for FrontRunner by grading and clearing the right-of-way and relocating water lines. Drainage and irrigation installations are generally complete in this area, and main line earthwork has been finalized from University Parkway to 2000 South in Orem and from the Provo River bridge to 500 West in Provo. At-grade crossing improvements have also been completed at 900 West, 700 West, 500 West and Freedom Boulevard.
Near University Parkway in Orem crews will continue installation of soil nails and shotcrete at the wall and also conduct signal work. In Provo, crews will finish crossing work started last fall at the 900 West, 700 West, 500 West and Freedom Boulevard crossings. Work taking place at these crossings will include sign installation, road striping, median work and asphalt patching. Between 700 West and 600 West crews will conduct stabilization and sub grade prep work and between 600 West and Freedom Boulevard crews will finish sub grade prep and continue demolition of a house near 600 South. Duct bank work will also take place in the area between 600 West and University Avenue.
Traffic Impacts:
There will be truck traffic with flaggers at Freedom Boulevard and 500 West in Provo Tuesday through Thursday.
Provo Station:
Electrical conduit work will continue at the station site this week.
