Weekend Closure of Geneva Road in Orem
For FrontRunner Construction
Orem — Utah Transit Authority will be closing a segment of Geneva Road in Orem this weekend to accommodate work on the FrontRunner Provo to Salt Lake City commuter rail project. The closure will take place at the railroad crossing from approximately 250 South to 400 South.
The closure will begin at approximately 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 10 and last through early morning on Monday, April 12. The road will reopen in time for the Monday commute.
Southbound traffic on Geneva Road will be detoured east on Center Street to 1200 West. Northbound traffic will be detoured east on 400 South to 1200 West.
FrontRunner construction crews will be installing new track and crossing infrastructure through the intersection.
“Completing the railroad crossing work is an important step in moving the FrontRunner project forward,” Steve Meyer, UTA project manager said. “It will enable us to make significant progress on installing track from Provo to the Jordan River Narrows this year.”

The new FrontRunner commuter rail line will run 45 miles from downtown Provo to Salt Lake City where it will connect to the existing FrontRunner line at Salt Lake Central Station. It will feature six new stations in Murray, South Jordan, Lehi, American Fork, Orem and Provo.

That's awesome news! The rail project will definitely be advantageous to people who love riding trains due to its ease of traveling on long distances without the pressures of rush hour traffic. On other note, the rail road construction is a pretty serious business to attend to, since one of the factors that will ensure the longevity of the tracks is soil settlement. In addition, soil stabilisation is one of the method used by contractors to ensure the stabilization of the tracks from the top to the bottom. Wrapping up, to ensure safety of the passengers and the train itself, contractors need to address and trigger any railway problem.
