Mid Jordan TRAX Construction Update

UTA Mid-Jordan TRAX Line Weekly Construction Update: October 9, 2009*

The Mid-Jordan TRAX line is a 10.6 mile light rail line connecting the communities of Murray, Midvale, West Jordan and South Jordan with the existing Sandy/Salt Lake TRAX line. It runs from the existing TRAX line at 6400 South to approximately 7400 South, then turns west along the Bingham Branch of the Union Pacific Railroad. At 5600 West, the line turns south again and ends at the southern end of the Daybreak development. For construction purposes, the line has been segmented into five sections. The map below shows each section in a different color, beginning with Daybreak on the southwest end and ending with Cottonwood at the northeast end.



Daybreak Area

(This segment runs north through the Daybreak development to Old Bingham Highway at approximately 5600 West)



Crews are currently installing the station platforms and the overhead catenary (power) systems in the Daybreak area.








Old Bingham Area

(This segment runs parallel to the existing Union Pacific Railroad Bingham Branch line,

along the Old Bingham Highway from approximately 5600 West to the Bangerter Station, east of Bangerter Highway)

Curb and gutter work as well as paving continues at the Park and Ride station near 4800 West.



NEW Activity: Drainage work. Traffic Impacts: Old Bingham Highway will be closed at 9000 South to accommodate drainage work on 10/21-10/23 (Wednesday-Friday). 9000 South will remain open.



UPDATED Activity: Paving at 9000 South and the trackway located near Old Bingham Highway has been delayed due to inclement weather. Traffic Impacts: 9000 South will be subject to lane shifts through the week of 10/12 to accommodate paving opportunities. Additionally, Old Bingham Highway will be closed during paving.



UPDATED Activity: Roadway reconstruction near Old Bingham Highway (approximately 9400 South). Traffic Impacts: 4800 West will be subject to a lane shift near Old Bingham Highway through 10/10 (Saturday) to accommodate crews working in the shoulder.



UPDATED Activity: Bridge work over Bangerter Highway (approximately 8700 South). Traffic Impacts: Bangerter Highway will be subject to a one center lane closure in each direction 10/14- 10/16 (Wednesday-Friday).



Activity: Traffic signal foundation work. Traffic Impacts: Old Bingham Highway at 5200 West will be subject to a traffic shift through 10/2 (Friday) to accommodate crews working in the shoulder.



Activity: Bangerter bridge median restoration. Traffic Impacts: The median on Bangerter Highway near the bridge at approximately 8710 South remains closed through October to accommodate median restoration work.



Activity: Please be aware that flagging operations will be taking place intermittently through 2009 at 4800 West near Old Bingham Highway to accommodate construction vehicles. Please note that left turns are allowed from the through lane; please follow flagger’s instructions.



Activity: Please be aware that flagging operations will be taking place intermittently through 2009 at Wasatch Meadows Drive near Old Bingham Highway to accommodate construction vehicles. Please note that left turns are allowed from the through lane; please follow flagger’s instructions.



Activity: Please be aware that flagging operations will be taking place intermittently through 2009 at 5200 West and the railway to accommodate construction vehicles.



Activity: Utility work is currently ongoing. Traffic Impacts: Shoulder work with possible lane restrictions.






Sugar Factory Area

(This segment continues northeast along the UPRR Bingham Branch from approximately Bangerter
Highway to Gardner Village)

Crews are working in the next few weeks to finish the soundwall between the Utah/Salt Lake Canal and 2700 West.



NEW Activity: Waterline installation work along 2700 West near the trackway. Traffic Impacts: 2700 West will be closed at the trackway on 10/31-11/1 (Saturday-Sunday). Additionally, 2700 West is subject to periods of one lane restrictions with flagging operations through 10/23.



NEW Activity: Utility work. Traffic Impacts: Redwood Road at approximately 8000 South will be subject to two outside lane closures in each direction on 10/10-10/11 (Saturday-Sunday). One lane in each direction will be open in this area. Sidewalks will also be closed during this time for safety reasons. Please plan accordingly and use an alternate route.



UPDATED Activity: Shoulder work. Traffic Impacts: Jordan Valley Way near the tracks may be subject to lane shifts to accommodate crews working in the shoulder through 10/25 (Sunday). Please use caution when driving through the construction zone.



Activity: Please be aware that flagging operations will be taking place intermittently through 2009 at 2700 West near the tracks to accommodate construction vehicles; please follow flagger’s instructions.



Activity: Please be aware that flagging operations will be taking place intermittently through 2009 at 3200 West near the tracks to accommodate construction vehicles; please follow flagger’s instructions.






Gardner Village Area

(This segment continues along the UPRR Bingham Branch northeast from Gardner Village to 700 West)

Work on the bridge at 700 West continues through the month of October.



NEW Activity: Girder delivery on bridge over 700 West at approximately 7400 South. Traffic Impacts: 700 West will be closed at 9 pm on 9/21 (Wednesday) through 3 pm on 9/23 (Friday) to accommodate girder delivery.



NEW Activity: Bridge work. Traffic Impacts: Crews will be working on structures at the base of the bridge piers on 700 West and approximately 7400 South. Please be aware that the 700 West will be subject to lane shifts in this area through 10/31 (Saturday), except on 10/17-10/18 (Saturday-Sunday).



Activity: Rail crossing at east 9th Avenue (approximately 7100 South and 600 West). Traffic Impacts: Traffic on 9th Avenue will be subject to one lane with stop signs through 10/10 (Friday). Please use caution at this crossing.



UPDATED Activity: Girder delivery and pier base work on bridge over 7200 South at approximately 600 West. Please be aware that the detour does cross a live railway track and will be closed daily from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. when freight is actively running on the track.

Access to Gardner Village from the Jordan River Parkway Trail is closed until further notice.

Crews are currently forming and pouring the concrete walls for the portal in the Cottonwood Area.



UPDATED Activity: Handrail installation. Traffic Impacts: Winchester Street will be subject to one-lane restrictions with flagging operations 10/20 (Tuesday) and 10/21 (Wednesday) for safety.

Mid-Jordan Light Rail TRAX Construction Update: May 1, 2009*

Bangerter Bridge

RESCHEDULED TIME Activity: Crews will be performing work on the Bangerter Highway overpass at approximately 8700 South. Traffic Impacts: All northbound lanes and two southbound lanes of Bangerter Highway will be closed between 7800 South and 9000 South beginning at 12:00 a.m. on Saturday May 9th through 6:00 a.m. on May 10 (Sunday). Please use 7800 South as a detour.

Activity: Crews will be performing work on the Bangerter Highway overpass at approximately 8700 South. Traffic Impacts: The centermost lane in each direction will be closed on May 11 (Monday) through May 15 (Friday).

Sugar Factory Area

NEW Activity: Work will be taking place on 3200 West at the trackway located near 8600 South. Traffic Impacts: 3200 West will be closed at the trackway from 5/13 (Wednesday) to 5/18 (Monday). Please follow posted detour signs along 4000 West and 8600 South, or along Haun Drive (also 8600 South) and 2700 West.

Activity: Crews will be performing work on the Bangerter Highway overpass at approximately 8700 South. Traffic Impacts: Because cranes will be working in the area, Old Bingham Highway at the Bangerter Highway overpass will be closed beginning at 7 p.m. on May 8 (Friday) through May 9 (Saturday).

Activity: Utility work is currently ongoing. Traffic Impacts: Shoulder work with possible lane restrictions.

Old Bingham Area

UPDATED Activity: Bridge work. Traffic Impacts: Old Bingham Highway at the Bangerter Highway overpass will be restricted to one lane with flagging operations on May 1 (Friday) and May 15 (Friday).

Activity: Work will be taking place at Jordan Valley Way and the trackway from May 5 (Tuesday) through May 12 (Tuesday). Traffic Impacts: Please use the temporary alternate travel lane located near the crossing.

UPDATED Activity: Work will be taking place on 4800 West at the trackway near Old Bingham Highway. Traffic Impacts: 4800 West will be closed at the trackway from 5/13 (Wednesday) to 5/15 (Friday). Please follow posted detour signs and use Wasatch Meadows Drive as an alternate.

Activity: Eastbound shoulder closure on Old Bingham Highway west of Bangerter Highway through April.

Gardner Village Area

UPDATED Activity: Crews have resumed work on the bridge at 7800 South near Gardner Village. Traffic Impacts: Westbound traffic has been shifted to the south side of the road until 5/2 (Saturday). Eastbound traffic will be shifted to the north side of the road from 5/4 (Monday) to 5/9 (Saturday).

Activity: Access to Gardner Village from the Jordan River Parkway Trail is closed until August 2009.

Activity: Construction on the Jordan River TRAX bridge. Traffic Impacts: A temporary detour began the week of October 13th, 2008 on the Jordan River Parkway Trail near approximately 7500 South. The trail will be intermittently detoured through August 2009. Please be aware that the detour does cross a live railway track, and as such, the detour will be closed daily from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. when freight is actively running on the track. Please plan accordingly. UPDATE: The trail is currently open on its regular route. The detour may be activated again in the coming weeks to accommodate construction activities; please follow all posted signs and read this update for up-to-date information.


Cottonwood Area

UPDATED Activity: Crews will be working to complete Cottonwood Street improvements. Traffic Impacts: 300 West is closed between the I-215 overpass and Winchester Street between until May 15 (Friday). Pedestrian access will be maintained. Please use State Street as a driving alternate.

From there, the line will turn south toward Kennecott Land’s Daybreak development, terminating at Daybreak Parkway in South Jordan.

Bangerter Bridge

NEW Activity: Crews will be performing work on the Bangerter Highway overpass at approximately 8700 South. Traffic Impacts: All southbound lanes of Bangerter Highway will be closed between 7800 South and 9000 South beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17th through 5:00 a.m. Saturday, April 18th. Please use 7800 South as a detour.



NEW Activity: Crews will be performing work on the Bangerter Highway overpass at approximately 8700 South. Traffic Impacts: All northbound lanes of Bangerter Highway will be closed between 7800 South and 9000 South beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18th through 5:00 a.m. Sunday, April 19th. Please use 7800 South as a detour.

NEW Activity: Crews will be working on the rail crossing on 9000 South between 4000 West and approximately 4400 West. Traffic Impacts: Traffic is restricted to one lane in each direction on the north side of 9000 South until April 1st. Crews will then move work to the opposite side of the road, and traffic will be shifted to one lane in each direction on the south side of the road beginning April 2nd; 9000 South is anticipated to fully re-open on Wednesday, April 8th. To accommodate construction, access to and from Old Bingham Highway at 9000 South will be closed beginning on March 25th. Old Bingham Highway will remain accessible from 4800 West.



NEW Activity: Work will be taking place at Jordan Valley Way and the trackway from April 15th through the 21st. Traffic Impacts: Please use the temporary alternate travel lane nearby to the crossing.

Activity: Crews have removed the median barrier in the area of approximately 8700 South and Bangerter Highway (just south of the Old Bingham Highway overpass). The median has been replaced with water barrels and will remain closed through April.

Sugar Factory Area

Mid-Jordan Light Rail TRAX Construction Update: March 18, 2009*

*** 9000 South Grade Crossing Work ***

Crews will be starting work on the 9000 South grade crossing beginning on March 25th. This work will require a partial closure of 9000th south at the railway tracks (approximately 4100 West to 4300 West), with some periods of full closure necessary for rail placement. More details will be e-mailed in a separate e-mail as they become available; please watch your mailbox for more information and contact the project team if you have questions or concerns.

Bangerter Bridge

NEW Activity: Crews will be working on the bridge structure on Bangerter Highway at approximately 8700 South. Traffic Impacts: The centermost north and south lane will be closed on Friday, March 20th.

Activity: Crews have removed the median barrier in the area of approximately 8700 South and Bangerter Highway (just south of the Old Bingham Highway overpass). The median has been replaced with water barrels and will remain closed through April.

Sugar Factory Area

NEW Activity: Survey crews will be working in the area. Impacts: Spot impacts in the area of Redwood Road and approximately 8100 South to accommodate survey crews on Thursday, March 19th. Please expect minor impacts.

Activity: Utility work is currently ongoing. Traffic Impacts: Shoulder work with possible lane restrictions.

Old Bingham Area

No traffic impacts are expected.

Gardner Village Area

UPDATED Activity: Crews will be working above and around the trackway (approximately 7400 South) and 700 West. Traffic Impacts: One southbound lane will be closed on March 18th and 19th. The shoulder of 700 West is also subject to closure. Please plan accordingly.

UPDATED Activity: Crews will be resuming work on the bridge at 7800 South near Gardner Village. Traffic Impacts: Westbound traffic has been shifted to the south side of 7800 South until March 21st.

NEW Activity: Crews will be working near the bridge structure on Winchester Street. Traffic Impacts: Traffic may be subject to intermittent periods one lane configurations with flagging operations from March 9th through March 13th. Please plan accordingly.

NEW Activity: Crews will be working above and around the trackway (approximately 7400 South) and 700 West. Traffic Impacts: Traffic will be restricted to one lane with flagging operations on March 16th and March 17th. Please plan accordingly.

Activity: Crews are continuing access and utility work near 300 West and the intersection of Winchester Street and Cottonwood Street. Traffic Impacts: Shoulder work with lane restrictions.

Mid Jordan TRAX line construction update

Mid-Jordan Light Rail TRAX Construction Update: February 26, 2009*

Bangerter Bridge

Activity: Crews have removed the median barrier in the area of approximately 8700 South and Bangerter Highway (just south of the Old Bingham Highway overpass). The median has been replaced with water barrels and will remain closed through mid-February.

UPDATED Activity: Crews will be performing work on the bridge structure at approximately 8700 South and Bangerter Highway. Traffic Impacts: The centermost lane in each direction will be closed on Bangerter Highway from January 26th through March 13th.

Sugar Factory Area

Activity: Utility work is currently ongoing. Traffic Impacts: Shoulder work with possible lane restrictions.

UPDATED Activity: Crews continue to work on the sound wall on the north side of Sugar Factory Road between 2200 West and approximately 2450 West. Traffic Impacts: Traffic has been shifted to the east side of 2200 West until February 27th.

Old Bingham Area

UPDATED Activity: Crews continue to work on Old Bingham Highway near the Bangerter Bridge overpass. Traffic Impacts: Traffic will be restricted to one lane with flagging operations at the overpass on February 25th and March 5th through the 10th, except on the weekend.

NEW Activity: Survey work will be taking place at the 9000 South grade crossing. Traffic Impacts: Traffic will be subject to traveling closures for surveyors working in the area on Thursday, February 26th. Please be aware.

Gardner Village Area

NEW Activity: Crews will be resuming work on the bridge at 7800 South near Gardner Village. Traffic Impacts: Westbound traffic will be shifted to the south side of 7800 South on March 9th until March 13th.

Activity: Crews are performing utility work on 1300 West at the trackway (approximately 7900 South). Traffic Impacts: 1300 West is completely closed at the trackway until March 2nd. Please plan accordingly.

Activity: Access to Gardner Village from the Jordan River Parkway Trail is closed until August 2009.
