Front Runner South Construction Update

Greetings,



Construction is progressing on UTA’s FrontRunner South Provo to Salt Lake Commuter Rail line.

Below is the FrontRunner South construction update for July 4 – 10.

Area 16 — Downtown Salt Lake City to 4500 South (Murray)



Construction Activity:

There are no construction activities planned for this area this week.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



Salt Lake Central Station:

Station complete.



Area 15 — 4500 South (Murray) to Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale)



Construction Activity:

Construction continues on bridges over eastbound I-215 and Center (7800 South) and Wasatch (8000) Streets in Midvale. These bridges will run parallel to existing Union Pacific Railroad main line bridges.



At I-215, crews will continue installing permanent pile on the north side of the bridge and also continue work on a storm drain relocation. At Center Street, crews will continue installing temporary shoring on the north abutment and begin wall construction. At Wasatch Street, crews will continue abutment wall construction and form and pour the south abutment of the bridge.



Traffic Impacts:

Lane and sidewalk closures will take place in conjunction with bridge construction at Center and Wasatch Streets. There will be a single lane closure at Wasatch Street and lane closures in each direction at Center Street. Flaggers will be at both bridges to direct traffic.



Murray Station:

No station construction activities to report.



Area 14 — Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale) to 14600 South (Bluffdale)



Construction Activity:

Progress continues behind Salt Lake Community College’s Miller Campus at 9800 South as crews construct a bridge that flies over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. This is the area where FrontRunner will move from the east side to the west side of the tracks.



Construction will continue on a wall on the northeast side of the bridge and crews will begin clearing and grubbing the corridor near the bridge. Crews will also continue work on the crash wall at the bridge.



Mass embankment work will take place between 10000 South and 10600 South.



Traffic Impacts:

Flaggers will be stationed at 9400 South in Sandy to direct truck traffic delivering lightweight fill to the site of the flyover bridge.



The outside northbound lane on South Jordan Gateway at approximately 10400 South will be closed as flaggers direct truck traffic moving lightweight fill.



South Jordan Station:

Lightweight fill for the flyover bridge construction is being stored at the site of the future South Jordan park and ride lot.



Draper/Bluffdale Station:

The location of this future station is to be determined.



Area 13 — 14600 South (Bluffdale) to Thanksgiving Point (Lehi)



Construction Activity:

Crews continue to establish access and prepare the site along the railroad corridor in Bluffdale and Lehi.



At the 144th South bridge, crews will begin soil mixing at the south side wall. At the Jordan River bridge, crews will form and pour wing walls for one of the abutments and strip forms on the other. North of Clubhouse Lane in Lehi, crews will continue excavation and storm drain work.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



Area 12 — Thanksgiving Point (Lehi) to Main Street (American Fork)



Construction Activity:

This week crews will continue work near the site of the Lehi station with water line work taking place at Ashton Boulevard. Utility work will continue at 300 West in Lehi on Monday and all week at 500 West. Drainage work will take place on Thursday and Friday between 300 East and the American Fork Park and Ride lot. Also, crews will clear and grub the corridor between 500 West and 900 North in Lehi.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



Lehi Station:

No station construction activities to report.



Area 11 — Main Street (American Fork) to University Parkway (Orem)



Construction Activity:

Work continues at the sites of the future American Fork, Vineyard and Orem Stations, see details below.



Sub grade stabilization will take place between 100 East and the American Fork River and utility work will continue near 800 South in Orem.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



American Fork Station:

Utility work will take place on Thursday and Friday at the Park and Ride lot.



Vineyard Station:

Crews will continue work on stem walls at the site of the future station.



Orem Station:

Crews will form and pour platform footings.



Area 10 — University Parkway (Orem) to Center Street (Provo)



Construction Activity:

Significant progress has been made in Area 10 along the Union Pacific Railroad corridor between University Parkway in Orem and West Center Street in Provo. Crews have prepared a path for FrontRunner by grading and clearing the right-of-way and relocating water lines. Drainage and irrigation installations are generally complete in this area.



Crews will continue placing sub ballast between 900 West at 500 South and 650 West and will remove existing Union Pacific track from University Avenue to 600 West. Utility work will also take place just south of University Parkway in Orem.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic all week at 700 West and 900 West.



Provo Station:

No station construction activities to report.

Area 16 — Downtown Salt Lake City to 4500 South (Murray)

Construction Activity:

Crews will continue mass embankment work between 3300 South and Central Avenue. Also, utility crews will be splicing fiber optics throughout the area.

Traffic Impacts:

Flaggers will be stationed on both sides of the Union Pacific bridge at Central Avenue in Murray to direct truck traffic entering and exiting the corridor on the east side of the bridge.

Salt Lake Central Station:

Station complete.

Area 15 — 4500 South (Murray) to Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale)

Construction Activity:

Construction has begun on a bridge that will run parallel to the current Union Pacific bridge over Wasatch Street (8000 South) in Midvale. Crews will continue driving pile at the south abutment. They will also remove the slope blanket under the bridge on the north side and install temporary shoring at the north abutment of the bridge.

Crews will also be splicing fiber optics throughout the area this week.

Traffic Impacts:

To support construction of the Wasatch Street bridge, lane and sidewalk closures will take place. Flaggers will be directing traffic under the bridge.

Murray Station:

No station construction activities to report.

Area 14 — Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale) to 14600 South (Bluffdale)

Construction Activity:

Progress continues in Area 14 behind Salt Lake Community College’s campus at 9800 South as crews construct a bridge that flies over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. This is the area where FrontRunner will move from the east side to the west side of the tracks.

Crews will continue constructing a wall on the northeast side of the bridge and installing lightweight fill. They will also be moving the false work for two of the flyover bridge piers

Crews will continue splicing fiber optics throughout the area and will be clearing and grubbing the grade between 114th South and 123rd South in Draper.

Traffic Impacts:

There will be a northbound lane closure on South Jordan Parkway at approximately 10400 South as flaggers direct truck traffic moving lightweight fill to the location of the flyover bridge.

Flaggers will be stationed on either side of the 144th South bridge to help direct truck traffic entering and exiting the railroad corridor on the east side of the bridge. We ask that drivers please be patient and courteous while using the one-lane road under the bridge.

South Jordan Station:

Lightweight fill for the flyover walls is being stored at the site of the future Park and Ride Lot.

Draper/Bluffdale Station:

The location of this future station has not yet been determined.

Area 13 — 14600 South (Bluffdale) to Thanksgiving Point (Lehi)

Construction Activity:

Crews continue to establish access in this area and prepare the site along the railroad corridor in Bluffdale and Lehi. Excavation and trackway embankment work will continue throughout the area as will fiber optics splicing.

Mass excavation has begun for a bridge over the Jordan and Salt Lake Canal and crews will work on the drain system for the South Jordan Canal channel.

Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.

Area 12 — Thanksgiving Point (Lehi) to Main Street (American Fork)

Construction Activity:

Crews will place subballast for the new Union Pacific Railroad Siding on the west side of the corridor. They will also install fencing on the wall that runs parallel to Garden Drive.

Utility work will take place along Garden Drive as crews splice fiber and work on irrigation at the Corner of Clubhouse Lane and Garden Drive.

Traffic Impacts:

There will be flaggers stationed along Garden Drive to help direct truck traffic near the corridor. Also, there will be a utility crew at the corner of Clubhouse Lane and Garden Drive on Monday.

Lehi Station:

Crews will install a new construction access entrance at the Lehi Park and Ride lot to prepare for station construction activities.

Area 11 — Main Street (American Fork) to University Parkway (Orem)

Construction Activity:

Trackway embankment work continues in American Fork from 200 South to 7350 West at Main Street as well as irrigation work and wick drain installation. Crews will also be splicing fiber optics throughout the area this week.

Girders were placed for the American Fork River bridge on May 14th. Finish work on the bridge will take place this week as crews pour concrete for the shear keys.

Traffic Impacts:

Flaggers will be stationed at the crossing at 200 South, just north of Storrs Avenue, in American Fork to direct truck traffic entering the corridor and near the American Fork Park and Ride Lot on 7750 North to direct truck traffic leaving the corridor.

American Fork Station:

Initial earthwork has begun at the American Fork Park and Ride Lot.

Vineyard Station:

Crews will continue embankment work near the site of the future station.

Orem Station:

Crews will form and pour concrete for a stem wall on the station platform this week.

Area 10 — University Parkway (Orem) to Center Street (Provo)

Construction Activity:

Significant progress has been made in Area 10 along the Union Pacific Railroad corridor between University Parkway in Orem and West Center Street in Provo. Crews have prepared a path for FrontRunner by grading and clearing the right-of-way and relocating water lines. Drainage and irrigation installations are generally complete in this area.

Crews will be splicing fiber optics throughout the area this week. Also, crews will be working on subgrade stabilization and mass embankment near Union Pacific’s Lakota Junction just south of University Parkway in Orem. Utility crews will be working on a water line at 1680 North crossing in Provo.

Traffic Impacts:

Flaggers will be rerouting traffic slightly to the south of 1680 North at the crossing for utility work.

Provo Station:

No station construction activities to report.

Front Runner South Construction Update

Construction is progressing on UTA’s FrontRunner South Provo to Salt Lake Commuter Rail line.

Area 16 — Downtown Salt Lake City to 4500 South (Murray)



Construction Activity:

Crews will continue excavation and construction on a cut wall at 3900 South in South Salt Lake. Also, utility crews will be splicing fiber optics throughout the area.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no traffic impacts in this area.



Salt Lake Central Station:

Station complete.





Area 15 — 4500 South (Murray) to 7800 South (Midvale)



Construction Activity:

Crews will be splicing fiber optics throughout the area this week.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



Murray-5300 South Station:

No station construction activities to report.





Area 14 — 7800 South (Midvale) to Bangerter Highway (Draper/Bluffdale)



Construction Activity:

Progress continues in Area 14 behind Salt Lake Community College’s campus at 9800 South as crews construct a bridge that flies over the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. This is the area where FrontRunner will move from the east side to the west side of the tracks. Crews will continue work on three of the bridge piers this week.



The substructure construction is now complete on the bridge adjacent to the current Union Pacific Railroad bridge over 144th South. The temporary traffic light has been removed and replaced with stop signs near their original locations at the bridge.





Crews will install micro-fiber and micro-duct as well as begin splicing fiber optics throughout the area.



Traffic Impacts:



There will be flaggers in the area of 104th South and Jordan Gateway helping to direct truck traffic entering the corridor near the South Jordan/Sandy Station park and ride lot.



South Jordan/Sandy Station:

No station construction activities to report.





Area 13 — Bangerter Highway (Draper/Bluffdale) to Thanksgiving Point
(Lehi)



Construction Activity:

Crews continue to establish access in this area and prepare the site along the railroad corridor in Bluffdale and Lehi. Excavation and embankment work throughout the area will continue this week and crews will also be installing micro-fiber and splicing fiber optics.



Crews will install a trash rack on the South Jordan Canal channel, install shoring, clay liner and rip rap near the East Jordan Canal bridge and install a temporary bridge over the Jordan River to support construction in the area.



Traffic Impacts:

There may be a partial lane closure along Garden Drive this week as crews work on extending water pipe casings and relocating water lines near the corridor. If there is a lane closure, flaggers will be in the area to direct traffic.



Draper/Bluffdale Station:

No station construction activities to report.







Area 12 — Thanksgiving Point (Lehi) to Main Street (American Fork)



Construction Activity:

Crews will backfill the pedestrian tunnel that will run underneath the Union Pacific trackway at the Lehi Station and construct a retaining wall. They will also continue excavation and embankment work for the new Union Pacific Railroad Siding on the west side of the corridor near the Lehi station.



Utility work will take place throughout the area as crews install micro-duct and micro-fiber and splice fiber optics.



Traffic Impacts:

There may be a partial lane closure along Garden Drive this week as crews work on extending water pipe casings and relocating water lines near the corridor. If there is a lane closure, flaggers will be in the area to direct traffic.



Lehi Station:

No station construction activities to report.







Area 11 — Main Street (American Fork) to 800 South (Orem)



Construction Activity:

Trackway embankment work has begun in American Fork. Crews will also be installing micro-duct and splicing fiber optics throughout the area this week.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



American Fork-Main St. Station:

No station construction activities to report.



Orem Station:

No station construction activities to report.





Area 10 — 800 South (Orem) to Center Street (Provo) Construction Activity:

Significant progress has been made in Area 10 along the Union Pacific Railroad corridor between University Parkway in Orem and West Center Street in Provo. Crews have prepared a path for FrontRunner by grading and clearing the right-of-way and relocating water lines.



Crews will be splicing fiber optics throughout the area this week.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be a partial lane closure in the middle of the week at Freedom Boulevard in Provo while crews pothole to confirm location of a gas line. Flaggers will be directing traffic.



Provo Station-University Ave. Station:

No station construction activities to report.
