Front Runner Construction Update

Construction is progressing on UTA’s FrontRunner South Provo to Salt Lake Commuter Rail line.

Below is the FrontRunner South construction update May 8 - 14. Please visit UTA’s FrontRunner South Webpage to learn more about the project.

Area 16 — Downtown Salt Lake City to 4500 South (Murray)



Construction Activity:

Crews will be excavating and installing soil nails at the south abutment of the 3300 South bridge. They will also be constructing a wall and restoring power at the bridge. Track way embankment work will continue between Central Avenue and 4500 South.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be a right lane closure on westbound 3300 South between I-15 and 500 West all week from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for utility work.



Please note that Central Avenue has reopened until crews resume work on the bridge walls.



Salt Lake Central Station:

Station complete.



Area 15 — 4500 South (Murray) to Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale)



Construction Activity:

At 4800 South crews will install a water line and relocate a storm drain to prepare for crossing work, and at the 5300 South bridge crews will form, tie rebar and pour concrete for one of the abutment’s beam seats. At the I-215 westbound bridge crews will be restoring barrier and slope paving.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be a lane closure on 4800 South all week for utility work.



The right lane on eastbound 5300 South will be closed on Monday under the Union Pacific bridge between 9:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.



There will be a left lane closure on westbound I-215 on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.



Murray Station:

Crews will grade the platform area and form and tie rebar for the platform footings.



Area 14 — Wasatch Street/8000 South (Midvale) to 14600 South (Bluffdale)



General Information:

Considerable progress has been made on the flyover structure west of Salt Lake Community College’s Miller Campus at 9800 South. The 642-foot flyover bridge features a 40-foot-high bridge deck that will allow FrontRunner to travel from the east to the west side of Union Pacific Railroad’s track way. The flyover structure’s approaches consist of keystone block MSE walls filled entirely with lightweight fill to minimize settlement.



Construction Activity:

Crews will finish excavation for and begin construction of the retaining wall between 9000 South and 9400 South and will continue removing surcharge from the north approach and placing it on the south approach at the flyover bridge.



Mass excavation and embankment work will continue between 114000 South and 123000 South and crews will also be relocating a power transmission line. At the Bangerter Highway bridge, crews will install H-pile at the south abutment and form, tie rebar and pour concrete for one of the pier footings and columns.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic with flaggers on 9400 South Monday through Friday.



On 10000 South there will be truck traffic with flaggers all week.



There will be the following lane closures at the Bangerter Highway bridge this week:

· Monday and Thursday, the westbound left lane and the eastbound left lane;

· Tuesday and Wednesday, the two westbound left lanes and the eastbound left lane.



South Jordan Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Draper Future Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Area 13 — 14600 South (Bluffdale) to Thanksgiving Point (Lehi)



Construction Activity:

There are no construction activities to report.



Traffic Impacts:

There are currently no impacts to motorists in this area.



Area 12 — Thanksgiving Point (Lehi) to Main Street (American Fork)



General Information:

Crews are currently constructing two major bridges in Lehi at 2300 West and 2100 North. The 2300 West bridge will allow FrontRunner to travel over Lehi City’s future 2300 West road project and the 2100 North bridge will span UDOT’s future Mountain View Corridor, 2100 North roadway. The 2100 North bridge will feature abutments on each end of the bridge and five center piers. For the purposes of this publication, the piers are numbered 1 through 5 starting at the southern end of the bridge.



Construction Activity:

Landscaping restoration will take place along the west side of Garden Drive near the golf course this week. At the 2300 West bridge crews will continue to form, tie rebar and pour concrete for the south abutment footing and will also do the same for the beam seats. At the 2100 North bridge crews will backfill and form the fascia for pier #5 and form and pour concrete for the cap on pier #4. Retaining wall construction will continue at 2300 West and at 1500 North.



Field fence installation will continue between 2100 North and 1500 North and will also take place between 1220 North and 900 North. Also between 1220 North and 900 North crews will be working on the embankment and clearing and grubbing the corridor. Between 200 South and 300 South crews will clear and grub the corridor, install temporary fencing and excavate for a wall. Utility work continues between 300 South and Center Street.



Traffic Impacts:

There will be truck traffic in Lehi in the following locations all week:

· Garden Drive, near the golf course; no flaggers on site;

· Garden Drive, at the south end near Cranberry Farms; no flaggers on site;

· 1220 North; no flaggers on site;

· 900 North; flaggers will be on site.



Lehi Station:

A portion of the Lehi Station Park and Ride Lot is now open for public use.



Work has resumed at the pedestrian tunnel; this week crews will continue excavating and building forms.



Area 11 — Main Street (American Fork) to University Parkway (Orem)



Construction Activity:

In American Fork/Vineyard between 1500 South/6400 North and 600 South/5200 North crews will be lowering cable in the duct bank and between 400 North and Geneva Road crews will finish placing sub ballast. At Geneva Road crews will be working on the duct bank and signals and between Geneva Road and 400 South in Orem crews will continue to finish track way embankment, slopes and ditches. At the 800 South crossing crews will finish crossing upgrades.



Traffic Impacts:

At 400 North in Vineyard there will be truck traffic, no flaggers, on Tuesday and Wednesday.



There will be truck traffic, no flaggers, on Geneva Road in Orem, just north of 400 South, Monday through Wednesday.



Crossing work activities will continue on 800 South in Orem.



American Fork Station:

Irrigation and landscaping continues in the Park and Ride Lot as well as white paving and curb and gutter work. Also at the station site crews will be installing wick drains and working on drainage and power.



Vineyard Future Station:

There are no construction activities to report.



Orem Station:

Electrical conduit proofing continues at the Orem Station.



Area 10 — University Parkway (Orem) to Center Street (Provo)



General Information:

Significant progress has been made in Area 10 along the Union Pacific Railroad corridor between University Parkway in Orem and Freedom Boulevard in Provo. Crews have prepared a path for FrontRunner by grading and clearing the right-of-way and relocating water lines. Drainage and irrigation installations are generally complete in this area, and main line earthwork has been finalized from University Parkway to 2000 South in Orem and from the Provo River bridge to 500 West in Provo. At-grade crossing improvements have also been completed at 900 West, 700 West, 500 West and Freedom Boulevard.



Construction Activity:

Crews will finish the soil nail wall near University Parkway in Orem and construct crossing improvements at the 2000 North crossing in Provo. Water and power utility work will take place at the 2800 West crossing as well as signal house installation. Water utility work will also take place between 2800 West and I-15.



Between 820 North and Center Street crews will distribute ties, construct track and surface, line and dress the track, and at 900 West and 500 South crews will be realigning the road. Crews will place sub ballast and distribute rail between 700 West and Freedom Boulevard. They will also be paving for a switch at Freedom Boulevard. Between University Avenue and 900 South crews will install chain link fence.



Traffic Impacts:

The 2000 North crossing in Provo will be closed for crossing work this week; traffic will be detoured on 2800 West, 1680 North and Geneva Road.



There will be utility work at the 2800 West crossing on Monday and Wednesday.



There will be a lane closure with flaggers on 1680 North Tuesday and Wednesday.



There will be truck traffic in Provo at the following crossings:

· 500 West, with flaggers, all week;

· Freedom Boulevard, no flaggers on site, Monday through Wednesday.



Provo Station:

There are no construction activities to report.
