Deseret News Article on Southtowne Mall

This must be the reason UTA is gone from Southtowne Mall. The question is, what provision is being made for the return of UTA bus service or are the mall owners anti-transit?

South Towne to expand

I do have to give the owners credit, the concept of the hybrid mall looks interesting and may be the future of many malls with the major changes taking place in retail.

My Proposed UTA Restructuring-Route 318

My proposal to revamp Utah Transit Authority bus service.

I have gone through all my proposed local routes. Now I am going to start with the Limited Route buses. This buses will make limited stops on a portion or all of their routes. They are designed for speed over local service. This routes along with the Express routes covered later will define "Bus Rapid Transit." All of these routes would get light controls and would used specialized BRT style buses even if part of their route is local service. Another goal for these routes would be to have Proof of Payment fare systems like TRAX on their limited sections.

Route 318:

From the Intermodal Depot via 600 West, 200 South, 700 East/Van Winkle Expressway/Highland Drive (2000 East) to the Highland Drive Transit Center.

Limited Stops: All fare free zone stops, 400 East, 700 East/200 South, 400 South, 600 South, 900 South, 1300 South, 1700 South, 2100 South, 2700 South, 3300 South, 3900 South, 4500 South, 900 East, 1300 East, 5600 South, 6200 South, 7000 South, Bengal Blvd, Creek Road, and Newcastle.

Once Highland Drive is finished through Draper route 318 will be extended via Highland Drive as a local service all the way to the Point of the Mountain Transit Center.

Frequency: Monday-Friday 30-minute service rush hours only. After Draper extension will be Monday-Saturday 30-minute.

Buses: 40-foot BRT buses.
